Communities For Gender Equality
Communities for Gender Equality supports long-term systemic change in four main settings including personal, governance, institutional, and community.
In Canada today, too many women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse individuals still face barriers and discrimination of all kinds. To create communities of true belonging, we need to advance gender equality across the country. In 2019, CFC became one of the founding partners of the Equality Fund, a groundbreaking collaboration that will deliver new momentum for women’s movements in Canada and around the world.
Since 2019, the pilot, cohort 1 and cohort 2 have supported women, girl, gender-diverse and Two-Spirit-led and serving organizations from coast to coast to coast.
The Fund for Gender Equality
As Canadian communities work towards a just recovery during the global pandemic and a future grounded in gender equality, the Fund for Gender Equality (The Fund) supports ambitious, local projects that advance gender equality. The third cohort of recipients of the Fund includes 125 resilient women, girls, Two-Spirit, and gender-diverse led and serving organizations.
The Fund for Gender Equality (the Fund) is part of a partnership between Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) and the Equality Fund. This groundbreaking collaboration is delivering new momentum for women’s movements in Canada and around the world. As part of the collaboration, CFC and the Equality Fund have developed a five-year initiative to advance gender equality in Canada with support from the Government of Canada.
The Fund supports ambitious, local projects that advance gender equality as Canadian communities work towards a just recovery following the pandemic. The 18 community foundations participating in the second cohort distributed over $3.4M to projects in their communities.
Hosted by local community foundations and funded with support from the Government of Canada, the Fund builds on efforts to shift power to women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse people, and will work towards a future grounded in justice and gender equality.
