When we tithe we are acknowledging that He is our source of provision and blessing. It is also important for you to know that today as believers, even if you are unable to tithe, God still loves you and you are still the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

Thankfully, God loves us when we give and when we don't give. And that's key here: We don't have to tithe to earn God's love—because we already have it.

And, even as a Christian, you may allow curses to come upon you through fear or your own negative words. But you are NOT cursed because you don't pay ten percent of your earnings to God, or to His representatives.

Since the payment of tithe is a command from the Lord, refusing to obey the command will attract some consequences. You come under a curse if you rob God of His tithes (Malachi 3:9). Deuteronomy 28:14-46 talks of all kinds of curses that will come and overtake those who will disobey the commandments of the Lord.

Therefore, God calls them cheats (Malachi 1:14) who are cursed because they are robbing God by failing to bring their tithes (Malachi 3:8-9). Everything belongs to God anyway, and He gives it to whoever He wills. Once He has given it to someone, it belongs to them and not to the original owner.

And even if we use these distinctions, tithing is clearly not part of the moral law. It's true the moral norms of the Old Testament are still in force today, and we discern them from the law of Christ in the New Testament, but tithing is not among these commands.

Tithing is one way to worship God—to honor Him as your provider and to remind yourself that all of your resources belong to Him and are provided through His grace. As you give Him that first ten percent of your income, you set your course to honor God in the way you handle the rest of your finances.

So, is it a sin not to tithe? Actually, it's a sin to tithe if we are giving from a law-based motivation rather than giving freely from the heart! And as I share in this short video clip, it's also a sin to believe and teach that giving allows you to remain in good standing with God.
