Why does the Microsoft verification code not work? ›

Review the section related to account blocks and determine if any of your activities may have violated these terms. That verification method isn't working right now: Sometimes the block may be tied to the verification method you are using. Try using another verification method connected to your account.

The Microsoft Authenticator app requires an internet connection to send verification codes. Check if the app has the necessary permissions to send notifications. On your mobile device, go to Settings > Apps > Microsoft Authenticator > Permissions, and ensure that the app has permission to send notifications.

Sign in to the Advanced security options page of your Microsoft Account. Expand the verification option and select Remove. Select Remove again to confirm.

Make sure your device is up to date, and that any other security apps (such as Microsoft Defender and Intune Company Portal) are also up to date. Make sure the device's Date & time are correct too. If you're using VPN, try disconnecting to see if the issue persists.

Authentication failure occurs when the request to a resource is missing or has invalid credentials.

It may be because the time isn't correctly synced on your Google Authenticator app. On the next screen, the app confirms the time has been synced. You should be able to sign in. The sync will only affect the internal time of your Google Authenticator app, and will not change your device's Date & Time settings.
