All in all, Travelers auto insurance is a good choice for drivers who prefer to purchase and bundle insurance policies from a company with a well-established history in the industry. The prices are already affordable, and the wide array of extra coverage options and discounts means you can customize your policy to suit your needs.

Travelers Home Insurance Review Highlights

Travelers offers coverage options for homeowners, renters and landlords, along with discounts for bundling multiple policies.

A Travelers homeowners insurance policy covers damage caused to your dwelling, or other structures on your property, by risks such as fire, hail, lightning, wind and vandalism. Homeowners insurance can also cover personal property replacement costs, though there are limits on luxury items like jewelry, designer watches and furs. While damage from water backup or overflow due to plumbing problems is covered by Travelers homeowners insurance, damage from floods, earthquakes and other risks may require additional coverage.

Renters insurance from Travelers protects your furniture and personal possessions against losses such as fire, lightning, windstorms, hail, explosions, smoke and vandalism. A renters policy can also protect your property against vandalism and theft, whether it’s damaged or stolen from inside your rental or anywhere else in the world.

Travelers offers landlords protection for their rental properties (generally those with one to four units), as well as any other structures on the property, such as garages and sheds. It also covers the landlord’s personal property, like furniture and appliances, kept inside a rental unit. The cost of medical bills, property damage and loss of use after eligible incidents are covered, too.

Overall, homeowners, renters and landlord insurance policies from Travelers are solid options, especially if you’re looking to bundle coverage with a car insurance policy.

Bottom Line: Is Travelers a Good Insurance Company?

Yes, Travelers is a good insurance company. In addition to affordable auto insurance for all types of drivers, Travelers also offers coverage options for homeowners, marine vessels, weddings/special events, travel, and small businesses. It has been around for more than 165 years, too, so it must be doing something right.

When it comes to car insurance in particular, Travelers impresses with an extensive list of discounts and strong coverage options. Travelers is also one of the few auto insurance companies that provide accident and violation forgiveness every three years, as well as a policy discount for hybrid vehicles.

Nevertheless, WalletHub’s editors give Travelers an overall rating of 4.2/5 because of its good scores in the customer service and claims departments. To learn more, check out WalletHub’s complete Travelers Insurance Review. You can also read some of the reviews from fellow consumers below.

After switching to Travelers homeowners insurance, they sent an inspector who produced an inaccurate and vague report, alleging that there were several problems with the house, and reported the number of bathrooms incorrectly. Switching to them is both expensive and time-consuming. Avoid using them for homeowners' insurance under all circ*mstances. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

Travelers was my insurance company for one year. I canceled the policy due to a premium increase. I am awaiting my refund, plus my mortgage company inadvertently sent a renewal payment. Travelers assured me that payments were mailed over two weeks ago. They owe over $1000 in refunds. This behavior is suspicious and suspect. No refunds have been received. I've called several times with no response. I will be pursuing legal action if the refunds are not received soon. Please don't use Travelers; it's unprofessional, and they mishandle your money.

Travelers is a joke. Their website will let you add people and cars but has technical difficulties when you want to delete anything. Want to delete a driver? Technical difficulties! Want to delete a car? They want to know why, like it's any of their business, but again technical difficulties! It's been technical difficulties for months. Good luck trying to find what the premium cost is for any given vehicle. If it's even possible, it's hidden deep. Progressive may be ridiculously expensive, but at least its website was easy.

I would never get Travelers homeowner's insurance. I'm still trying to settle storm and hail damage, and a tree falling on the house 18 months ago. The insurance company wants to pay very little. They won't replace the roof shingles that have hail damage, but they will replace the roof vents. They expect me to pay for repairs first, then they say they will reimburse me. In short, get your insurance from anywhere but Travelers.

Been with this company for over 10 years. The rear window of my Honda Ridgeline was broken in February and was supposed to be covered. However, the part is no longer available, and the truck can't be driven on the freeway. Travelers' response was essentially, "Well, too bad for you." Worst company. Beware.

Travelers is truly contributing to the notion that insurance is a scam. I had car insurance that I applied for with just my name; my ex's name was added without my permission, and they refused to remove him. So, I canceled my policy and obtained car insurance from another company. Despite this, Travelers did not cancel my policy and attempted to charge me for a full 6 months for the next year. I am still trying to deal with this. I spent hours on the phone and provided documentation proving that my policy was canceled, but they still refused to terminate my policy on my account. I've had to ask my credit card company to block them from charging my card again since I have all the evidence of the cancellation, yet they proceeded to charge me again. I will never use this company again for any type of insurance, and I will ensure that no one I know does either. Thank you, Travelers, for preying on people; I hope it comes right back to you.

Travelers sent us a letter to the wrong address and then canceled our landlord insurance due to an issue on our property. We suddenly found ourselves without insurance, and they wouldn't help us out until we fixed the issue, meaning weeks without insurance. I would not recommend Travelers because they left us in a vulnerable position.

I called Travelers to change my address for rental insurance. The first question from the customer service agent was not what the new address was, but how far it is to the nearest fire hydrant. How would I have that information? I called again and spoke to another customer service agent who said she could find that information and complete the address change. After 30 minutes of waiting, she told me that she could not find the information and that I should call them back when I am able to figure out the distance to the nearest fire hydrant. She said it was a new policy that the policyholder's responsibility is to provide the distance from the fire hydrant to the residence.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Travelers Insurance. Following a severe storm on May 26, 2024, a tree fell on my property, causing significant damage to my home and reopening a previously repaired crack in my basem*nt wall. This led to water infiltration in my basem*nt, a problem I had never experienced before the incident.

Despite multiple attempts to resolve this issue, I have been met with unhelpful responses and inadequate solutions from Travelers Insurance. The assigned adjuster, John Maxey, suggested filling the crack with epoxy injection—a temporary fix that contractors refuse to warranty against future leaks. This solution is unacceptable given the risk of ongoing water damage to my home.

Here are the key points of my frustrating experience:

1.Inadequate Repair Solution: The recommended epoxy injection lacks a warranty, leaving me vulnerable to future water infiltration. My basem*nt was dry before the incident, and this temporary fix does not provide the long-term protection my home needs.
2.Lack of Communication: When I inquired about the appeal process, Mr. Maxey failed to provide a clear response and instead advised me to hire my own engineer. This sidesteps my request for information on their formal appeal process and adds unnecessary complexity and cost to the situation.
3.Extended Resolution Time: It has been over a month since the incident, and my claim remains unresolved. Despite my efforts to expedite the process, the insurance company has shown little urgency or willingness to provide a satisfactory resolution.
4.Unresponsive and Unhelpful: My contractor has tried to reach out to Travelers multiple times without success. The lack of communication and responsiveness from Travelers has only added to my frustration and delayed necessary repairs to my home.
5.Previous Lack of Water Infiltration: My basem*nt did not leak before the tree impact. The current water infiltration issue directly results from the incident, yet Travelers refuses to cover comprehensive waterproofing solutions.
6.Dismissive Response from Management: After filing a complaint with the adjuster’s manager, I was told that I could pay out of pocket for another engineer’s report. Furthermore, the manager stated that he would be happy to address any complaint with the Department of Insurance, which I found dismissive and unhelpful.

Due to the inadequate response and lack of resolution, I have filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the Kentucky Department of Insurance (DOI). Despite these efforts, I have yet to receive a satisfactory response or solution from Travelers.

Travelers Insurance has failed to provide the support and solutions I expected as a policyholder. I strongly urge anyone considering Travelers for their insurance needs to think twice. My experience has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I would not recommend this company to anyone seeking reliable and effective insurance coverage.

It usually takes about 30 days for an insurer to pay out a claim, but the time frame may vary depending on the circ*mstances. To ensure that your claim is handled as quickly as possible, be responsive and detailed when answering any questions your insurance company might have. If your claim is taking too long, you can contact your insurer directly or go to your state's insurance regulator for help.

Travelers is so cheap because the company offers a wide variety of discounts that almost anyone can get. A minimum coverage policy from Travelers costs an average of $74 per month, and Travelers premiums can be made even cheaper by taking advantage of discounts such as continuous insurance discount and paid-in-full discount. Plus, Travelers rewards customer loyalty with discounts for insuring more than one car and bundling multiple policies, such as home and auto.

Travelers insurance rates go up by an average of 73% after an accident. Drivers who have Travelers accident forgiveness will not see their car insurance rates go up at all after their first accident in 3-5 years, however. Even if the accident can't be forgiven, it will only affect your insurance rate for 3-5 years, depending on your state.

The exact amount that premiums go up after an accident depends on a few factors, including who...
