The power of declaration (2024)

The words that we speak will influence our lives and connects us to the unseen spiritual world. In Proverbs 18:21 we read that “the power of life and death is in the tongue and they that love it will eat the fruit thereof.” In other words, there are consequences to the words that we speak. The Passion Translation says, “Your words are so powerful that they will kill or give life…” Furthermore, in the New Testament, we read in 1 Peter 3:10, that “He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking guile.” Our quality of life and the length thereof will depend on the words that we speak!

The Bible says in Hebrews 11:2-3, “…the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things that are seen were not made from the things that are visible.” God created the world that we now see by taking that what already existed in the invisible spiritual world and transferring it into the world that we now see. He did so by speaking words! That is why we read in Genesis 1:2-3, “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘let there be light and there was light.” In verses 11-12 we read, “God said, Let the earth bring forth grass … and the earth brought forth grass…”

Although we cannot, like God, create something out of nothing, however, if something already exists in the invisible spiritual world, we can transfer it into our natural world through the words that we speak. For example, in Ephesians 1:3 we read that the Father “has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places.” Blessings already exist in the invisible spiritual world called “heavenly places.” These could include, “the presence of God, joy, peace, freedom, authority, healing etc. The Bible also says in Ephesians 2:6 that we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. This means that we have authority, presence and victory because we are in Christ. Through our words we can turn these into realities in our own lives, influence our environments, change our circ*mstances and bring about the miracles we need by the words that we speak.

We read in Job 22:28, “Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.” (KJV) This means that you will pronounce something to be and God will make it so. The Amplified Bible says “You shall also decideanddecree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favor] shall shine upon your ways.” Decrees are the privileges of kings! When a king decrees something, it becomes the law of the land. Therefore, when we, as kings and priests, seated in heavenly places, can make decrees according to the word and will of God. When we do so, a law is established in the spirit world, and what we decree comes to pass.

We once held a meeting in a church in St. Petersburg. After the meeting, they told us of a lady in the church who had an accident and was in a coma for a long time. They could not wake her up out of her coma. I preached this word and after the sermon I got the whole church to declare that she would come out of this coma. About a half hour later we received the news that she had come out of her coma. We made a decree, and it was established! We later met this lady, healthy, alive and well.

A few years ago, Frances and I went to Turkey on a short holiday special from Russia. They put us up in a hotel full of Russians. When we switched on the TV in our room, which was set to the local channel, it showed the most horrific p*rnography. We turned the TV off and made the following decree: “In the Name of Jesus we will not allow this program to continue because it is not according t5o the will of God. We destroy the equipment producing this program and declare it will no longer be shown in this hotel while we are staying here.” A short while later we again switched on the TV and to our surprise, it was a Christian channel showing John Haggee preaching. For the duration of our stay we watched wonderful, inspiring Christian programs. Can you imagine a Christian program in a Muslim country in a hotel full of Russian holiday makers! I think God must have sent an angel to redirect the satellite dish!

In Psalms 103:20 we read, “Bless the Lord, you angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word.God gives His word and when we give a voice to His word, angel activity is released to bring His word to pass. That is why it is so important to always speak positive, faith inspired words based on the Word of God. That is why, “the power of life and death are in the tongue!”

Another verse that confirms this is found in Psalm 68:11-12, “The Lord gave the word; greatwasthecompany of those who proclaimedit: “Kingsof armies flee, they flee, and she who remains at home divides thespoil.” In other words, God gave the word, a great company of believers proclaimed it. The armies of the enemy flee and their goods are plundered.

I recently heard the testimony of a pastor who had a vision of many thousands of warrior angels sent to the earth to assist the church to bring in the last end time harvest and to manifest God’s glory on the earth. He noticed that these angels had bows but no arrows in their bows. The Lord told him that as we the church, declare God’s word with authority, we place arrows into their bows which they will shoot out all over the earth to bring in the last end time revival on the earth. In Hebrews 1:14 it says that the angels of the Lord are, “… ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who willinherit salvation.” Angel activity is activated by the words we declare!

We read in Isaiah 51:16, “And I have put My words in your mouth; I have covered you with the shadow of My hand, that I may plant the heavens, lay the foundations of the earth.” Through speaking the words that God puts into our mouths, we plant seeds into the heavenly realms and something is established on the earth! In fact, we can plant the heavenly realm into our earthly realm by speaking the words that God puts in our mouths.

Another scripture that confirms this is Matthew 6:10, when Jesus taught His disciples to pray and say: “Let Your kingdom come, let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” In the original Greek language, this is a declaration and not a request. It actually reads as follows: “Come kingdom of God, be done will of God on earth as it is in heaven!” We can bring heaven down to earth by the decrees and declarations that are based on the word of God!

God said to Moses in Numbers 6:23-26: God said, “Speak unto Aaron and his sons, saying, This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel, by saying to them, ‘The LORD bless you, and keep you: The LORD make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you: The LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace. And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.” Notice it says here, “This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel, by saying to them…” The way that we can bless one another is by speaking positive faith filled words.

We can navigate through some of life’s greatest storms by continual simply speaking God’s word over our lives. In James 3:4 we read, “Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.” Just as a large ship can be steered out of a large storm by a small rudder, so we can navigate through the storms of life by the words we speak with our small tongues. So if we are in a difficult place today, we can begin to declare with our mouths that what God has promised in His word, and we will experience the blessings and the breakthroughs that we desire.

It is important that our words, declarations and confessions are not to be based on what we see, hear or experience, but on that what God says in His word. God’s word will work for us no matter how negative our circ*mstances seem to be. We read in Romans 4:17, “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.” [Another translation says, “He speaks of the nonexistent things as if they [already] existed.”] We are to declare things into existence before they manifest. We need to declare our miracles and speak to our mountains until our words become realities.

Finally, the Bible says in Hebrews 10:23:Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” The word “hope” means, “a joyful anticipation of good things to come.” If we desire good things to happen, then we can begin to declare words of hope. Notice it also says, “hold fast” or “continue” which means that we need to continue to do so until our answers manifests. Great power and authority is released when we declare the word of God by faith. The power of declaration is a wonderful truth because, “the power of life and death are in the tongue.” Amen.
