1945 Penny

The title of Australia's rarest penny, while many think it's the 1930 penny, actually goes to the ones made at the Melbourne Mint in 1945. Featuring Thomas Humphrey Paget's effigy of King George VI and the jumping kangaroo reverse, only four pennies were produced at the Melbourne Mint that year.

All but about 40 (+/-) of the billion or so cents struck in 1943 were made of scrap steel coated with zinc, in order to preserve copper for the war effort. In low-end condition they're only worth 10¢ to a quarter, but as other answers note an absolutely top quality uncirculated strike can be worth thousands.
