How does TFHe work? ›

TFHE is a C/C++ library which implements a very fast gate-by-gate bootstrapping, based on [CGGI16] and [CGGI17]. The library allows to evaluate an arbitrary boolean circuit composed of binary gates, over encrypted data, without revealing any information on the data.

An encryption scheme that supports both addition and multiplication of ciphertexts is said fully hom*omorphic, as any program can be represented as a circuit of additions and multiplications. More generally, an FHE scheme is an encryption scheme that is capable of evaluating any program over encrypted data.

Fully hom*omorphic encryption. A cryptosystem that supports arbitrary computation on ciphertexts is known as fully hom*omorphic encryption (FHE). Such a scheme enables the construction of programs for any desirable functionality, which can be run on encrypted inputs to produce an encryption of the result.

hom*omorphic encryption enables complex mathematical operations to be performed on encrypted data without compromising the encryption. In mathematics, hom*omorphic describes the transformation of one data set into another while preserving relationships between elements in both sets.

Fully hom*omorphic Encryption (FHE)

The most advanced type, FHE allows any number of computations to be performed on encrypted data without a predefined sequence or limit. Any computation on plaintext data, including ML and MPC, can be evaluated.

Both FHE and ZK are cryptographic methods that allow data processing without revealing the original information. However, they operate on different principles. While FHE allows computations directly over encrypted data, ZK allows proving knowledge of information without revealing it.
