Submit to CGC with Only a Free Membership (2024)

Now, anyone can submit to CGC — no paid membership required — and Associate, Premium and Elite members get lower prices on grading!

Big news! Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) is thrilled to announce two major updates that make grading more accessible to all collectors: Effective January 24, 2024, anyone can submit to CGC with a free account, and paid members will now pay lessfor grading and pressing services.

These collector-friendly updates follow similar updates made by CGC Cards™ in July 2023, which received an overwhelmingly positive response from the card collecting community. Offering the same submission opportunities to comic book, video game and home video collectors continues CGC’s initiative to make grading easier and more rewarding.

What's changing?

  • Free Members Can Now Submit to CGC
  • Associate & Premium Members Get a 10% Discount on CGC Grading & Pressing
  • Elite Members Get a 20% Discount on CGC Grading & Pressing

“Our goal isto help as many collectors as possible benefit from our expert grading services, and removing the paid membership requirement is a significant step towards that goal,” says Matt Nelson, CGC President.“I’m also excited about the new savings for current submitters, which will give them more bang for their buck. CGC is deeply appreciative of the collecting community’s patronage and loyalty.”

Never before have collectors been given full access to CGC Comics™, CGC Video Games™ and CGC Home Video™ without a paid membership. The change will substantially broaden the reach of CGC’s expert and impartial services; and as more collectibles are authenticated, graded and protected by CGC’s protective holders, pop culture enthusiasts across the board will benefit from a safer and more transparent market.

Meanwhile, CGC’s loyal and passionate community of paid members will be rewarded with lower grading fees. Associate and Premium members get 10% off grading fees, and Elite members get 20% off grading fees, along with exclusive benefits. So, does the company matter? In short, yes. 90% of comics are graded using CGC or CBCS, and among those two, CGC has the better reputation and generally higher values due to that reputation. CBCS is mostly comparable, just less popular, so many collectors prefer CGC-graded comics.

You would think the tougher to grade, many years removed, and less mint vintage cards with a “higher” grade would sell for more in a CGC 10 pristine label, but that just isn't the case. The Vintage cards with the more “seasoned” collector values the PSA label over the CGC “Higher Graded” version.

We noticed that CBCS is much more consistent in its grading. This is something to consider because you might have a comic undergraded (or overgraded) by CGC, which might affect the value, while CBCS will at least give a more consistent grade (ex: a comic that's a 9.8 will get a 9.8).
