Catching unique Pokemon can become a love-or-hate relationship for fans. The tagline for catch 'em all can truly be tested by collecting multiple versions of the same type of Pokemon. Vivillon, introduced in Gen 6, takes the tagline to a new level, with more than 18 different wing patterns to collect.

Vivillon is unique because its wing patterns are based on real-world locations. It's no longer as easy as trading with friends unless those friends actually live in a different part of the world than you do. If you don't need to collect every pattern of Vivillon, then you can settle on the best designs for this butterfly Pokemon.
10 Sandstorm Pattern
While most mono-colored patterns on Vivillon can seem stale, this Sandstorm pattern stands out due to its clear camouflage look. When this pattern flaps its wings, it even looks like a sandstorm is brewing. The multi-colored brown speckles on the wings imitate the swirling sand in the dunes.

The way you can immediately tell where this pattern is from places it on the best list as well, as the rings on the bottom layer of the wings represent the ground. As the pattern rises, the upper wings represent the swirling sandstorm, with the specks representing the sand in the wind.
9 Icy Snow Pattern
This pattern makes this list because of its beauty in simplicity. These white wings evoke a sense of pureness and calm in Vivillon, while also depicting a snowy scene. The solid white of the bottom wings represents the snow-covered floor, and the specks in the winds at the top show off the snow falling, telling a snowy story with this wing pattern. You can almost see the snow falling to the ground here. What makes this even better is the shiny variant of this wing pattern turns Vivillon itself white, blending into the scenery it created.
8 Fancy Pattern
Vivillon is surrounded by a pretty pink scene, as the inner areas of each of its wings envelope the Pokemon with pink, but as the wings stretch out, so does the scene it creates. The edges of the wings on this fancy pattern create a beautiful meadow, with patterns of flowers on the top wings.

The purple, red, and white flowers reflected in the wings on the outer rim, and the specks of white on the bottom, make it seems as if this Vivillon is lying in a beautiful meadow, relaxing and enjoying its life among the flowers.
7 Elegant Pattern
A dark and royal purple drench the wings of this Vivillon pattern, with deep rich-colored wings that reflect the regal heir of the region it's from. It's also unique because it's the only purple Vivillon pattern available, further separating this pattern into its unique, elegant category. The complementing red and orange patterns near the top can be seen as a crown, ensuring this color pattern keeps its elegant title.
6 Jungle Pattern
The dense green on the wings of this Vivillon pattern perfectly reflect the dense jungle the pattern is named after. The earthy tones on the bottom wings work well to match the jungle feel of this pattern, showcasing the layers of the earth from underneath the earth's crust up to the jungle floor and into the drastic green of its wings.

Light speckles throughout represent the sunlight peeking through the lush jungle. A simple yet gorgeous design true to its namesake. When looking at these wings, you can imagine the Grass-type Pokemon hiding in the dense jungle.
5 Sun Pattern
If you think a sunrise or the sun on the horizon is beautiful, then you'll be impressed by the sun pattern Vivillon. Gorgeous yellow and red coloring complement each other as this pattern reflects the sun. The red circle encompassing Vivillon makes it the sun's center, and the yellow rays outstretch this area, creating a gorgeous mixture of red overlapping yellow and an orange outer layer, truly reflecting the sun in the sky, its rays expanding as it lights up the world.
4 Monsoon Pattern
Both a wet and dry monsoon are depicted in the multi-colored wings of this Vivillon pattern. This intricate pattern reflects the storm roving through the area and is one of the most detailed designs. The grey storm brewing in the middle of the wings pattern reflects the grey storm clouds you'd see. The lines of blue streak through the dark sky, as the light wingtips show the clear sky on the horizon. The black, grey, and blue are beautiful compliments that show a brewing storm in gorgeous detail.
3 Savanna Pattern
This pattern is one of the best because it's one of the unique wing patterns. No other Vivillon pattern copies this one. With Vivillon at the center, the teal wings are interrupted by bright rays of yellow, the streaks highlighting Vivillon. The dark blue on the outer layers of the wings helps point your eye toward the center, making Vivillon the star of this design.
2 Ocean Pattern
While this could have been a repeat of the marine pattern with different colors or patterns, it instead creates a beautiful sunrise or sunset story. With the ocean below, the sun on the horizon sprays its rays across the water's surface.
Beautiful light and bright color combinations create a vibrant scene; it looks as if you're truly staring at the sunrise or sunset on a tropical island instead of being stuck at home. Nothing can get better than this scene you'll dream about capturing in real life.
1 Pokeball Pattern
What better way to blend in with the world of Pokemon than to look like a Poke Ball? While Amoongus has this camouflage covered, it's not the only Pokemon that can resemble a Poke Ball. This pattern is one of the best because it's also unique and probably the most difficult to obtain. This special pattern was distributed as an in-game gift and cannot be attained in any other way besides trading.
It's also one of few Pokemon that can resemble a Poke Ball aside from the Amoongus mentioned above. The striation on its wings reflects a Poke Ball perfectly, with the white circular center, the lower wings representing the white bottom of the ball, and the upper wings the red top of a standard Poke Ball. The attention to detail in the wings reveals multiple variations of red and white, creating a spherical look and shadows for the Poke Ball it imitates. One of the coolest and most well-designed patterns, you can't beat the Poke Ball Vivillon.
