Even if you have used the Fastest server button previously, you should try several other locations as well. Try the ones that are close to your physical location.
If you're not sure how to check if the speed has increased - there are many apps on the Google Play Store for testing the speed. Download one and use it for speed testing purposes.
Change the default protocol
Go to the Settings page on your Surfshark app.
Tap on VPN Settings.
You will find the Protocol setting. By default, the protocol should be Automatic. Change it to OpenVPN (UDP)
Connect to one of the servers and test the speed again.
If OpenVPN (UDP) does not help, try the WireGuard protocol and others.
Turn on small packets
You will find an option to use small packets in Surfshark's settings. Small packets reduce the size of each transmitted packet, which may improve the connection speed and stability.
If it's off by default, turn it on and test the speed again.
Change your network
Some networks might be performing worse compared to others when connected to a VPN. Check if your Wi-Fi is slower than your mobile data or vice versa.
Turn off the Battery-saving mode
Battery saving mode or other settings that optimize battery consumption on your device might disable essential networking functions. You will find all the data settings if you open your phone's Settings and select the Battery settings tab. Turn off Battery-saving mode.
Reboot your device
Even though this may sound too simple to have any effect, it often helps because rebooting your device will close all idle apps and stop other background processes that might be running.
Open your Settings app and tap Network & internet or Connections. Depending on your device, these options may be different. Turn Wi-Fi off and mobile data on, and check if there's a difference. If not, turn mobile data off and Wi-Fi on and check again.
Cached data on your device—or an individual app—can eat up storage space and lead to slowdowns, or even become corrupted. Clearing cache often can help. On Android, clearing an app's cache is relatively straightforward: Open the Settings app.
Adverse weather, interference from building materials or terrain, distance from your nearest cell tower, or network overload can all contribute to poor signal.
Slow data can often be fixed by turning your phone off and back on. To restart your Android or iPhone, press and hold the Power button until you see the power screen, then tap Restart or swipe the slider bar to power down your device. Once it shuts down, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on.
Clean your Android's internal storage by clearing your cache, removing junk files, clearing out old photos, uninstalling old apps, and clearing your phone's memory. This should be done regularly to keep your device running smoothly.
Clear cache, delete unnecessary files, and organise your apps to reduce clutter. ✧ Update Software: Ensure your device is running the latest operating system and app updates. These updates often include performance optimisations and bug fixes that can eliminate lag.
Turn Data Saver on or off. In your status bar, when Data Saver is on, you'll see the Data Saver icon . You'll also see a notification at the top of your phone's Settings app.
