The Kraken is a boss-type enemy in Sea of Thieves.
It is recognized by the multitude of tentacles rising up high from the ocean depths, visible even at a distance.
Fighting the Kraken is a dangerous endeavor, as it can likely claim your crew and ship as you are trapped on all sides by its giant tentacles.

Where to Find the Kraken
Unfortunately for Kraken hunters, you cannot summon the Kraken. It is a random event that happens anywhere on the seas of Sea of Thieves (although it won't happen too close to a marked location on a map). There's no way to summon it out from the seas — all you can do is sail around and hope that the surrounding waters turn dark, which indicates a Kraken is about to breach the surface.
The Kraken is a random encounter that can happen at any time almost anywhere in the Sea of Thieves.
When sailing, the Kraken is heralded by the surrounding water turning extremely dark, regardless of weather or time of day. So dark in fact that a player cannot see below the waves (this is because the Kraken does not appear to have a physical body beyond its mass of tentacles. Your ship will stop once the Kraken appears, and you will be unable to sail forward until dealing with this menace.
How to Fight the Kraken
When the Kraken appears, every member of the crew will have to help to ward off the beast. The Kraken in game is comprised of eight tentacles that act independently. As it waves its tentacles, it will open an close the tips like mouths on each tentacle - and at certain points it may try to strike a player, or slam onto the ship.
If targeted, you must break its line of sight or hit it with a cannonball, otherwise that player will be grabbed by the tentacle and held aloft in the gaping maw. If grabbed, the Kraken will either hold you aloft, slam you back down on th ship - or toss you into the sea. It's possible - though hard, to free a player from this by hitting the base of the tentacle with more cannonballs.
One player should be on duty to repair, while the other alternate shots at the different tentacles as they appear or disappear. If the tentacles should start wrapping around the ship itself, you can slash at them to stop damaging the ship.

Kraken Rewards
Random loot can drop when an individual tentacle is defeated, and players who best the beast will get the Achievement: Kraken Good Time. Each time the Kracken is defeated will contribute towards the Kraken Hunter, Master Kraken Hunter and Legendary Kraken Hunter Commendations.
