Overall, Geico car insurance scores well in terms of pricing, ease of use, and coverage options. There are lots of Geico discounts available, too.

Geico Home Insurance Review Highlights

Geico offers both homeowners insurance and renters insurance, along with discounts for bundling either with Geico auto insurance.

Geico homeowners insurance generally covers property damage due to fire, wind and hail. Water damage may or may not be covered, depending on the specifics of your policy. Homeowners insurance from Geico also covers damaged or stolen household items – from appliances and furniture to clothing. Stolen jewelry is typically covered up to $500 - $2,000, too.

Geico renters insurance provides very similar coverage for people who do not own their own home. It protects your personal belongings in the event of fire, theft/vandalism, wind damage and more. Like Geico homeowners insurance, renters insurance from Geico also covers accidental damage to others’ property, injuries to visitors, and expenses if the property is uninhabitable after a covered event. Geico renters insurance can cost as little as $12 per month.

Overall, Geico’s homeowners and renters insurance policies provide dependable coverage at a competitive price, especially for people with Geico car insurance.

Bottom Line: Is Geico a Good Insurance Company?

Yes, Geico is a good insurance company for drivers of all types, as well as one of the best insurance companies overall. In addition to personal and commercial auto insurance policies, Geico offers several other types of coverage, including home and life insurance.

Geico car insurance is especially good for tech-savvy, budget-conscious drivers who are comfortable buying car insurance directly from an insurance company, rather than from an individual agent. Prospective customers should also be comfortable managing the policy largely online and over the phone, rather than face to face with an agent. Despite all of its great features, Geico does have some room for improvement in the customer service and claims departments.

"Yes, Geico is a good insurance company". No, it is not. Read the *customer* reviews on this site, most are 1-2 stars. Apparently, BBB uses a similarly odd review methodology as does the WalletHub Editor. Yes, the official BBB rating for Geico is A+. BUT, the average of 998 Customer Reviews posted on BBB is 1.15 out of 5. It seems that reviewers LOVE Geico, but customers HATE Geico.

They canceled my auto insurance without notifying me. I was driving without insurance because of miscommunication led to not taking the payment from my account. I paid to reactivate and the lady said (after I paid), I can't reactivate; I can quote you a new policy which was way higher than the old one. Also, they keep increasing the price every renewal. I wish we could give minus stars.

I have had GEICO for over 30 years. My first accident was completely covered. This year I was involved in an accident in front of my house, and the repair shop was told to only fix my car with used parts; that's all that GEICO would pay for. Also, I have two vehicles and pay the same premium that one of my friends, who is the same age, pays for one vehicle. When she contacted GEICO, she was told that there are more auto accidents in her neighborhood. She lives in a more heavily populated area than I do. We are both the same age, I have had two claims, and she's had none; both retired, my two cars are the same age as her single car. She has a Subaru, and one of my cars is a Challenger, yet she pays twice what I pay.

I was insured with Geico for about three months in 2024. I needed basic coverage for a used car that I purchased in June. I was charged $268 for the initial six months when I inquired about adding a second driver to my policy, they charged me $92 extra for a “bad driver” point from a speeding ticket I received in 2021 totaling $368 for 6 months of coverage. However, this had already been added to the $268 that I paid in the initial payment for insurance. When I spoke on the phone with an agent, they clarified that it was not a duplicate, and that I had not been charged on my initial sign up with Geico. This was pure manipulation, I felt abused in this transaction. When I canceled my plan this September due to failure of vehicle, I was refunded $192 and $92 separately which is $290 total. This was not the full amount I paid, I am no longer able to contact Geico or get in touch about my policy since it is cancelled. This was a confusing first bout with car insurance. I will not be using Geico again.

My premium increased significantly. I was rear-ended by another GEICO driver, and after everything was fixed, GEICO said my renewal policy would increase. My driving record was clean, and I always paid on time. There weren't any at-fault accidents on record. My premium increased because another driver hit me and GEICO had to pay the claims. So now, they want me to pay back the money that was paid for the claim by increasing my renewal policy. Now, that doesn't make sense to me.

Geico will do whatever they can to screw the customer after an accident. And they will hide behind the phrase "You cannot prove the damage was tied to the accident." I was literally told by a Geico Supervisor that their job is to place the customer in a position just like the accident never happened. That supervisor lied to us on the phone because that is not what happened. Due to an accident that was not our fault, we lost significant value to the car and Geico will not remedy the issue stating again "You cannot prove the damage was tied to the accident." Be very, very cautious using them. And definitely do not take a car to a recommended place by Geico. Geico works in cahoots with these places to keep damage costs down as much as possible just screwing the customer in the process.

While in a restaurant eating lunch, someone backed into my parked car. An eyewitness saw the incident. He wrote down the license number and took a picture of the vehicle as it left the scene. The license number was matched to a GEICO insured vehicle whose driver admitted to being in that very spot at that time. GEICO denied my claim to have my car repaired, stating there wasn't enough evidence. I believe GEICO is a dishonest company. If you're looking for reputable coverage, I would suggest considering a different insurer.

If I could give zero stars, I would. I filed a claim shortly after my policy went into effect because I had an incident. The claim department is implementing a fraud claim because my policy had just taken effect, which is absurd! If I were trying to file a fraud, wouldn't I have waited? In that case, wouldn't I have known what to do? But I am not, and I don't know what to do. I have never filed a claim before in my life and don't know what it entails, but I have been cooperative and submitted what is asked of me. I didn't expect the delays to be this long, or am I wrong? I explained that we can't predict the future or when incidents will happen, and it was just a coincidence that my incident happened the next day after my policy took effect. Isn't this why we buy insurance? I have left several calls for my adjuster and investigator, John, with no return calls. They wanted my phone log, and I provided it. Then I received a letter stating I need to provide a statement, which I assumed was taken on the day of the incident, but I guess not. Since receiving the letter, I have left several messages and cannot get a return call, with no updates on my claim, and it has been over 30 days. Geico needs to do better; don't switch to or get Geico.

Geico sold us a 6-month auto insurance policy for $995 (one car, two drivers with clean driving records) last Sunday (June 30). The very next day (July 1st), we called them to correct a spelling mistake in my name, and they said that the insurance premium would be going up by $1700 effective immediately, to $2600 for 6 months! We were shocked and repeatedly asked them why there was an exorbitant change in price in just one day. They would not give a clear answer, and their responses were contradictory; one representative said it was related to my international driver's license (which they knew about on June 30th when giving us the quote) and another representative claimed that they are allowed to increase the premium at any moment without justification. I understand raising rates, but a $1700 increase on the day our policy went into effect is outrageous. The customer service was terrible, and we felt deceived by the sudden price hike. We didn't expect such a well-known company to pull this kind of stunt. We canceled and went ahead with their competitor, Progressive, who offered us a 6-month policy at half the price. It seems Geico didn't want us as customers, even though we have clean driving records. Perhaps they sensed we were getting a good deal and wanted to retract the auto insurance, but since they couldn't do that legally, they raised the rates to ridiculous amounts, hoping we would cancel ourselves. It was very unprofessional and left a bitter taste in our mouths.

I just had a phone call from GEICO agent Billie Angrisano. She finally contacted me after three emails to her last week; she only contacted me after I called GEICO and complained about being ignored. I attempted to get information on my mother-in-law's deductible and was given the runaround and told they'll connect me to a supervisor. I finally had enough of the hassle and hung up. I had to find the car part needed from an accident and pay for it myself. GEICO is the worst insurance company I've ever dealt with; they don't want to help customers or assist with a claim. If you're searching for insurance, bypass GEICO and continue looking.

Every six months they raise insurance by $20. I had full coverage that started at $120 a month, and once it got to $200, I switched to just liability, which was $131. Every six-month renewal, it goes up. There's no reason why I should be paying $151 a month when I have a clean driving record and a 2011 vehicle that I do not drive much. Talking about inflation – that's ridiculous. I guess I'm finding another insurance company ASAP.

They have the ultimate worst customer service on the globe. In fact, they don't seem to have customer service at all. You can chat, but they don't have a clue. You can email, but what good is that? And please tell me why they would return a payment saying that you overpaid and then remind you that you have 5 days to pay. When you call to make the payment—oh wait, there is no customer service. Forget that; I called another company after 30 years with Geico. Guess what? I saved a considerable amount of money. Goodbye!

Why is Geico so cheap?

McKayla Girardin, Car Insurance Writer

@mckayla_girardin

Geico is so cheap because it sells insurance coverage directly to consumers without middlemen and offers a lot of discounts. Direct-to-consumer insurance allows Geico to have significantly fewer local offices and agents, making them cheaper than companies like State Farm and Progressive. Having a smaller agent network lowers Geico's overhead costs so they can pass those savings on to consumers.
