In what areas does Gap perform poorly for its ethics and sustainability policies?
Gap performs particularly poorly for our research criteria that examine a brand’s respect for and implementation of Human Rights. Multiple accusations have been launched at Gap and its parent company Next for their poor regard for the welfare of the workers in their supply chains. This has resulted in a bottom rating in the Human Rights category.
Additionally, Gap also receives a bottom rating for Organic, as no clothing made with 100% organic cotton could be found in the brand’s product range.

Gap was awarded a top rating for Ethical Trading Schemes, as its parent company, Next, is a member of the Ethical Trading Initiative. This demonstrates that the company is committed to improving the treatment of workers in its supply chain, despite its poor environmental record.
Gap also receives a top rating for Animal Welfare, due to Next’s robust Animal Welfare Policy which confirms that all animal-derived materials are sourced ethically and that no animal testing occurs on cosmetics products.
