How do you look up the owner of a drone? ›

FIND A DRONE / AIRCRAFT OWNER

Many USA and Canadian drone owners have registered their drones in our drone registry. If you have found a drone with a registration number displayed on it, enter that number below. If the owner has registered their drone you will be shown how to contact them.

Login to the FAA Drone Zone's Website here. Be sure to log in with the same email you originally registered with. Upon logging in, you'll be redirected to the home screen which displays your registration number on the left-hand side, along with the date of issue and expiration.

Recreational flyers: If you registered your drone at FAADroneZone, log in to your account and you will see your registration number, right below it (in far left column) you will see the option to "Cancel".

You must use the paper (N-number) registration process if: Your unmanned aircraft is 55 pounds or greater. You want to qualify a small unmanned aircraft for operation outside the United States. You hold title to an aircraft in trust.

FAA Airmen Registry Search: The FAA maintains a publicly accessible Airmen Inquiry Search Page website where you can search for registered drone pilots.

It broadcasts info like location, altitude, and yes, your registration number, to nearby authorities and other airspace users. So, technically, the FAA can be aware of your drone when it's in the air.

Some have likened Remote ID to a drone license plate. Like license plates, although the drone pilot is not usually directly named, either a serial number or session ID is broadcast. This information can be used by authorized individuals, like police officers, to contact the FAA and get the drone pilots information.

Failure to register an unmanned aircraft that is required to be registered may result in regulatory and criminal penalties. The FAA may assess civil penalties up to $27,500. Criminal penalties include fines of up to $250,000 and/or imprisonment for up to three years.

What if I sell my registered drone? ›

If your drone was registered for 'recreational' use, removing the registration number is sufficient, because only your personal information is on file and until the registration expires (3 years), you can simply put the same registration number on a different drone and fly recreationally.

All drones must be registered, except those that weigh 0.55 pounds or less (less than 250 grams) and are flown under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations. Drones registered under the Exception for Limited Recreational Operations cannot be flown under Part 107.

You may register once and apply the same registration number to all your UAS with the appropriate label for recreational use. Commercial drones must have unique registration numbers.

There are several legitimate ways to obtain a free DJI drone without breaking any rules or laws. Some options include participating in contests and giveaways, joining the or review program, taking advantage of education and non-profit discounts, or renting a drone for a limited period of time.
