Elemental Reactions Chart - Genshin Impact Guide - IGN (2024)

Throughout Teyvat, 6 Elements rule the roost: Pyro, Cyro, Electro, Hydro, and Anemo, and Geo representing Fire, Ice, Electric, Water, Wind, and Earth respectively. A seventh, Dendro, represents Nature, but is only found in obstacles like shields and structures made of wood, currently.

The first four can be considered primary elements, reacting with each other in various ways. Anemo and Geo, meanwhile, react with the previous four elements, making them take on a supporting role.

There are two kinds of elemental reactions: Transformative and Amplifying.

Transformative reactions include Overloaded, Shattered, Electro-Charged, Swirl, and Superconduct. These reactions relies heavily on the level of the character and their Elemental Mastery. Damage from these reactions cannot crit.

Meanwhile, Vaporize and Melt are Amplifying reactions. These reactions replace the damage of the attack that triggered it, and depending on the reaction will multiply it by 1.5% or 2.0%. Unlike transformative reactions, damage from these reactions can crit and character level doesn't matter that much. Elemental Mastery is still an essential to boost up damage.

In battle, it’s essential to know how the elements can work both in your favor and against you. It starts by applying an Affliction, then combining it with another element to cause a reaction. For example:

Using a Hydro-based attack or stepping in water will inflict “Wet” on the target. A Cryo attack would then cause the Freeze chain reaction, rendering them immobile for a time. In this one case, using a Geo attack on a Frozen target would react and cause Shatter, dealing considerable damage and ending the chain.

Some targets, however, could be immune to this exact reaction - a Slime naturally encased in Cryo would resist the initial Hydro attack, stopping Wet from ever applying. Instead, a Pyro attack could be used to inflict “Melt”, eventually removing their ice armor, or a Geo attack could be used to inflict Shatter similar to the end of the original reaction.

FAQs

Melt is arguably one of the strongest reactions in the game, and it can easily take the slot of any other reactions mentioned above it on this list if executed properly. The reaction triggers when Pyro is applied to Cryo or vice-versa, but it doesn't do anything by itself.

What is the weakest element in Genshin? ›

7 Geo Is The Worst Element In Genshin Impact

Geo has a single elemental reaction, Crystallize, whereas most other elements have three or four. Crystallize combines with Cryo, Pyro, Hydro, and Electro, but even so, it's not all that useful. All Crystallize does is give the player a shield, and it doesn't last long.

How do reactions work in Genshin Impact? ›

A reaction occurs when one element is applied to an enemy already affected by a different element. For example, applying Dendro to an enemy affected by Hydro will lead to a Bloom reaction (more on Bloom later).

What is the strongest elemental in Genshin? ›

Hydro is considered the best element in the game with strong reactions, extra HP for the party, and synergy with all Hydro characters, while Geo and Cryo struggle due to their limited reactions and lack of versatility.

Which reaction has the highest damage in Genshin Impact? ›

Hyperbloom has the highest dmg multiplier, but other reactions can yield more damage just because the character is built a certain way making lower dmg multiplier (vape, melt) as good or better than hyperbloom.

Who is the weakest 4 star character in Genshin Impact? ›

39 Amber. Some things never change, which is quite sad for Amber. She's been at the bottom of the heap ever since the game began and is crowned as the worst character when it comes to damage. Still, she does have her uses, such as lighting up braziers from afar if players are too lazy to get close.

What element weakens Anemo? ›

Keeping this information in mind, you can say Anemo is weak to every other element except Dendro and Geo (sorry Beth). I'm not saying use this element against this, or use whatever against that.

What is the most damaging character in Genshin? ›

Eula. At the moment, Eula still holds the current highest record for the single biggest attack damage done in Genshin Impact.

Is geo good against cryo? ›

A Cryo attack would then cause the Freeze chain reaction, rendering them immobile for a time. In this one case, using a Geo attack on a Frozen target would react and cause Shatter, dealing considerable damage and ending the chain.

Is Vaporize or Melt better? ›

The only correct answer is Melt. Vaporize for some reason never hits as hard as Melt does unless your fire characters are super weak.

Which anemo character is best? ›

#1: Kaedehara Kazuha

His Elemental Skill disrupts all nearby opponents and sets Kazuha up for a devastating Plunging Attack, which brings those enemies back stunned and ready to be burst down. His Elemental Burst is not only a powerful Anemo slash, but leaves a huge swirling field that continues dealing Anemo DMG.

Which traveller element is best? ›

It all depends on the other characters you're using. Most of the time you can max damage using elemental reactions and using multiple character. That said a majority of traveler mains use geo. Geo does a lot of damage on its own and is like a add on for a team that uses elemental reactions.

What is the strongest type in Genshin Impact? ›

Polearms, not even close. Swords has the most overall solid line-up, catalyst has a few good ones, but my god do polearms have a stranglehold. Raiden, hu tao, and xiangling alone make it the best in the entire game, zhongli xiao and shenhe are just icing on the cake. Even lore-wise it is the strongest line-up.

What is the strongest reaction with Dendro? ›

One of the reactions added to the game in Version 3.0, Quicken is triggered whenever Dendro meets Electro. This reaction can be applied in both ways, and it doesn't matter which element is applied first. Quicken doesn't do a lot by itself, but it is one of the strongest reactions because of what follows.
