Should I enable UPnP for port forwarding? ›

You should disable UPnP to protect your security. Having UPnP enabled makes your network and the devices connected to it less safe, and could leave the door open to hackers. As discussed in the previous section, leaving UPnP on opens you up to online threats. UPnP can offer convenience, but it's not worth the risk.

UPnP uses UDP port 1900, and all used TCP ports are derived from the SSDP alive and response messages.

Sign in to your router's setup webpage, and make sure the router's UPnP setting is turned on. You can usually find first-time help with this in the router manual or on the manufacturer's support site. Turn the UPnP setting off and save your changes. Restart your console, your modem, and your router.

Players may want to research how well their router's or modem's UPnP is designed and then decide if UPnP is worth using or not. Players can also use Port Forwarding instead of UPnP, which is more difficult to set up due to manually adding information into a router or modem but is generally safer for a network.
