What is an all-purpose tool? ›

All-Purpose Tool is a simple screwdriver that can transform into a variety of artisan's tools.

This simple screwdriver can transform into a variety of tools; as an action, you can touch the item and transform it into any type of artisan's tool of your choice (see the "Equipment" chapter in the Player's Handbook for a list of artisan's tools). Whatever form the tool takes, you are proficient with it.

Your ability to create and use different tools is enhanced. You can produce an All-Purpose Tool (TCoE, p. 119) using The Right Tool for the Job. You can attune to it the instant you create it, and attuning to it doesn't count against the number of magic items you can normally attune to.

Cantrips can be cast an unlimited number of times per day. Cantrip: The simplest form of magic in D&D, these spells are often minor tricks or utilities that magic users have mastered to the point that they can cast them at will, without needing to rest or use a spell slot.

A multi-tool (or multitool) is a hand tool that combines several individual functions in a single unit.

Special Purpose Tools comprise of tools designed to do just one thing—but do it well.
