It may be that the transaction is not complete yet. Check on a block explorer. Are you on the correct network? If you sent the token on an EVM-compatible network that you can use in MetaMask (e.g. BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Avalanche C-Chain, etc.), simply change networks in MetaMask.

If a token isn't appearing in 'Overview', it may be because it is not on a supported network, or isn't a supported token on one of those networks. (Currently supported networks include Ethereum mainnet, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, OP Mainnet, Arbitrum, Fantom, and Linea).

Sometimes, tokens need to be manually added to MetaMask to be displayed. You can try adding the token manually by going to your MetaMask wallet, clicking on "Add Token," and entering the token contract address.

If you're a new MetaMask user, token detection is enabled by default. If you're an existing user, you might have to turn it on. To do so, click on the three vertical dots in the upper right-hand corner of the wallet view, navigate to 'Settings', and then 'Security & Privacy', and make sure the toggle is on.

The private key is a critical component of a cryptocurrency wallet, and with it, you can generate the public address and gain access to the funds associated with that address. However, if the private key backup is also lost or becomes inaccessible, then the tokens in the wallet can be lost forever.

Close down your browser where you have the MetaMask extension installed and open it again. Try switching off any ad blockers you have installed, or, if you're using a VPN, try using MetaMask with it turned off. Switch to a different network and back again.

This happens when a token has low liquidity, low swap volume, liquidity was recently added to Uniswap, or the token was recently launched.

Make sure you are on the correct network in MetaMask. When you open your MetaMask, click the little downwards arrow that's just before your account and switch to the network that you need to see the balance for. MetaMask is pulling the account balance through an endpoint of a blockchain node that has the network state.

Why is my token not showing in my wallet? ›

There are two potential reasons why your tokens may not be appearing where you expect them to: You sent to a contract address. Smart contracts on Ethereum and EVM-compatible networks have their own addresses, and they are easily mistakeable for regular wallet addresses. You pasted in the wrong address.

Unhiding tokens and NFTs​

To unhide tokens, go to your 'Tokens' view and click on the 'More' button, next to the 'Networks' selector, on the right-hand side. From there, click on 'View hidden tokens'. Click on the 'Token actions' menu, next to the token you want to unhide, and select 'Unhide'.

MetaMask funds are stored in hot wallets: In order to make it as easy as possible for users to access, trade, and use their crypto, MetaMask stores all of its users' assets in hot wallets, i.e. digital crypto wallets that are perpetually connected to the blockchain.

Stored cache files may be the culprit for the MetaMask not showing a token issue. Therefore, clearing cached data becomes imperative.

Check on a block explorer. Are you on the correct network? If you sent the token on an EVM-compatible network that you can use in MetaMask (e.g. BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Avalanche C-Chain, etc.), simply change networks in MetaMask. If the token was not sent on an EVM-compatible network, your funds may be lost.

If you can't add a token, it will be because: Each supported network in MetaMask Portfolio has its own token list. If you own a token on these lists, you can add it. If the token isn't on this list, it won't be available.

Your Secret Recovery Phrase (SRP) is a unique 12-word phrase that is generated when you first set up MetaMask. Your funds are connected to that phrase. If you ever lose your password, your SRP allows you to recover your wallet and your funds.

Unhiding tokens and NFTs​

To unhide tokens, go to your 'Tokens' view and click on the 'More' button, next to the 'Networks' selector, on the right-hand side. From there, click on 'View hidden tokens'. Click on the 'Token actions' menu, next to the token you want to unhide, and select 'Unhide'.

Check that the transaction was successful.

If the transaction was unsuccessful, the tokens will not show up in the destination wallet, and you'll need to try sending them again. Remember that blockchain transactions are not immediate, so your transaction may take a little while to be confirmed.
