@Jem450RIf you feel your crypto is useless, then it's just a bad crypto (or bad teammates of crypto) XD. Information is power in BR's, especially in solo queue (where everything is just so much more chaotic). On the other hand, that doesn't mean crypto should be constantly scouting - do that only when you need to know something (e.g., entering through a choke from outside the zone - let crypto check first; you can still turn around if you don't like what you see), not when you already know where enemies are.
Playing with crypto is a more tactical game. Gather your intel, plan your approach, dominate (or abort and go hide in a corner). If you know everything, then you can engage enemies when they really don't want that (e.g., fighting some1 else (come in at the worst time (for all of them) possible), hiding somewhere and then needing to move from zone (squeeze them between zone and you). You can also choose not to engage and never run into an unexpected ambush. The idea is to ACTUALLY know positions of every single enemy around you, not pretend you do ("I think that squad should be rotating somewhere around there, eh, or there.. there could also be a couple of rats, uhm, somewhere..."). With crypto you can get precise answers. How much value you can squeeze out of that knowledge is entirely up to you.
As for hitting teammates/self with EMP - hitting teammates is usually still a net positive gain, so don't mind doing that. Hitting self can be avoided by dropping armor (well, you kind of know exactly when it will hit, when you're doing it yourself; e.g., if you're in a safe building in final circle and want to emp everyone and come out guns blazing - a fight starts outside - you put a drone at your feet, EMP, drop armor, take armor, rush out to mop up). The fighting enemies won't have the luxury to drop their armor to avoid crypto's ult damage (if they do that they just die to their opponents). A lot of crypto players don't even manage to hit the EMP... they just let the drone be shot before it goes off (main mistakes: 1) they go into LoS of enemies with drone when they could just do it safely from behind wall/rock; 2) they start the EMP too late and give enemies too much time to shoot it or worst of all 3) they EMP and forget, leaving an extremely easy to shoot stationary drone).
P.S. Unlike bloodhound (who can only track moving enemies), crypto is extremely good at finding the solo rats - find em, kill em for some easy points and better placement.
Is crypto the best legend in Apex? Nah. Is he good for any style of play and any situation? Also nah. Is he still great? Yup, most certainly.
