If you are looking for a new pool cue, it is important to know which size cue fits you and your pool table best. In this article we explain how to choose the right pool cue size for optimal playing comfort and the best performance.
Length of the pool cue
The most common length of a pool cue is 57 inches, which corresponds to about 145 cm. This is the standard length used in most professional pool tournaments. However, if you have a small pool table or if you are not that tall, a shorter cue may fit better, such as a 52 inch (122 cm) or 48 inch (105 cm) cue.
For example, a shorter 48-inch cue is suitable for children or for use on a smaller pool table. A 52 inch cue is suitable for a smaller room with a smaller pool table. However, for most adults, a standard length of 57 inches is the best choice.
Inch | Cm |
42 | 105 |
48 | 122 |
52 | 132 |
57 | 145 |
Weight of the pool cue
The weight of the pool cue is also important when choosing the right cue for your pool table. In general, a heavier cue is better suited to a larger pool table, while a lighter cue works better on a smaller table. The weight of the cue is usually measured in ounces and usually ranges between 18 and 21 ounces.
If you have a larger pool table, choose a heavier cue, such as 20 or 21 ounces. If you have a smaller pool table, a lighter 18 or 19 ounce cue may work better. It is important to remember that the weight of the cue is a matter of personal preference, and you may need to try different weights before making the best choice.
ounces | Gram |
18 | 510 |
19 | 538 |
20 | 567 |
21 | 595 |
Diameter of the tip
The diameter of the tip of the pool cue is also important when choosing the right cue for your pool table. The most common diameter for the tip of a pool cue is 12 millimeters, but 13 millimeters is also possible. In general, a narrower tip is better for playing precision shots, while a wider tip is better for playing cue balls.
If you mainly focus on precision shots, a 12 millimeter tip is the best choice, which is why all our Heemskerk cues are equipped with a 12 millimeter tip.
Which length should I choose?
The length of the cue depends on several factors, such as the length of the pool table and the height of the player. In general, the longer the gaming table, the longer the cue should be. A common guideline is that the length of the cue should be about the same as the distance between the ground and the player's chin.
As a rule of thumb it can be said that a player of average height (about 1,75 meters) needs a cue of 140-145 cm for a 7ft pool table and a 145-150cm cue for an 8ft game table.
At Heemskerk we have cues in different lengths, ranging from 105 cm to 145 cm. Our cues are made of high quality materials and are designed for optimal balance and grip.
