Walking through the halls to my first hour, I can always spot countless cans of Alani Nu and Celsius. But energy drinkers usually stick to one brand.
With these being two of the most popular energy drinks on the market right now I asked myself: which one would I choose?
Ingredient comparison
Celsius and Alani Nu have similar benefits when it comes to health. They both contain 200 mg of caffeine and are sugar-free and vegan.
Taurine is an amino acid that’s found in both Alani Nu and Celsius. Taurine has been shown to have several potential health benefits like improving exercise performance and healthy cellular energy levels according to lifeextension.com. A can of Alani Nu contains 2000 mg of taurine, while a can of Celsius contains 1000 mg.
From what I’ve noticed celsius has no effect on me other than it makes me anxious, but when I drink Alani I do notice a boost in energy and athletic performance.
B vitamins are another common ingredient both drinks share — Alani Nu contains B6 and B12, while Celsius contains B3, B6, and B12.
Now the drinks may have some similar ingredients but both contain things that the other does not. Alani contains things like sodium and potassium, while Celsius has other things like green tea extract and vitamin C.
While they share some ingredients they both also have different benefits, yet I only feel affected by Alanis so I am gonna have to give another win to Alani Nu.
Taste comparison
Alani has more flavor. All of the flavors are sweet and have a distinct taste leaving no bad aftertaste in my mouth. It also has more flavor options than Celsius, ranging from simple flavors like peach to more unique flavors like Bomb Pop and mimosa. My personal favorite flavor is tropsicle because of the fruity and tropical taste that also has a hint of vanilla like flavoring which makes the drink all the better.
Whenever I take my first sip of an Alani Nu I feel like I’m sipping a refreshing drink on the beach.
Celsius on the other hand is a tad bit more bland and has a bad aftertaste that tastes like medicine. A lot of the flavors taste similar — kinda like juice and there is certainly not as much variety as Alanis.
My first sip of a Celsius tastes good — it refreshes me, but the aftertaste is what gets me. I don’t recommend it since it tastes so medicine-like.
Packaging comparison
Alani packaging has bright colors and cute designs for each specific flavor. The drink looks exciting, and stands out next to other drinks on the shelf.
Celsius packaging, like the flavors, doesn’t have much variety; they all look similar but that’s not to say that the packaging is lousy. The designs are neat and definitely show off the goal of the drink quite well. It might not stand out in a shelf full of brightly-colored Alanis though.
Price Comparison
An Alani Nu is priced at $2.69 per can and $29.99 for a pack of 12. Celsius is priced a little cheaper, each can being $2.19 and a pack of 12 being $21.99.
The pricing isn’t a huge difference and not a big game changer for me. It’s all about the quality and higher quality things tend to be better anyways. I never buy packs of 12 and usually buy energy drinks individually so an extra 50 cents doesn’t change anything for me.
Final decision
Ultimately, I will always be an Alani girl. You simply get more out of it. Better flavor, more variety, cuter packaging— it’s really the whole deal. Though you might have to spend a little more it’s definitely worth it.
