As players explore north of the Bailey Family Cabin on Fallout 76's map, they may come across the Mysterious Cave, and inside they will find a door and a keypad. Indeed, if fans hope to enter this door they will first need to put Fallout 76's Mysterious Cave code into that keypad, and helping players do that is exactly the purpose of this guide.

Unfortunately, there is no quick answer to the question of what the Mysterious Cave code in Fallout 76 is because it is randomized for each individual player. Thus, fans must obtain the code for themselves, and that is done by collecting six mysterious map fragments from various locations and then placing them on a board that is found at the Grafton Pawn Shop.
Updated on February 28th, 2023 by Hodey Johns: When this guide originally debuted, it contained a YouTube link to the location. While some players appreciated this direction, other gamers wanted this guide to show them the exact locations of each map fragment. Now, pictures have been added, showing the exact location of each piece so that gamers can find everything they need all on one page. Also, this latest update moves information about what to do with the map and the cave itself to the end. Finally, a world map has been placed at the start that highlights the areas of interest. This should allow players to find the map fragments more easily as they can get to the target area and then hunt down the piece from there.
Mysterious Map Fragment Locations
Here are the locations of the six mysterious map fragments in Fallout 76.
The northernmost circle here is the pawn shop in Grafton where the board is. It's the place to turn in all the pieces of the map. So visit that location after grabbing the fragments from the other spots first. If trying to unlock this vault early, bring along a weapon that doesn't require a dedicated build. It will help deal with any monsters at the various locations.
- Morgantown High School: Next to a broken terminal on the second floor
- Red Rocket Mega Stop: In a station to the southeast on a counter
- Haven Church: On a hallway counter
- The General's Steakhouse: On a south-facing bar
- Uncanny Caverns: On the welcome building counter
- Mothman Museum: On the front desk
Once a player has collected all of the mysterious map fragments, they can then head to the Grafton Pawn Shop and visit the apartment located above. Beginners learning to play the game will find that this particular mission gets them acquainted with a huge chunk of the world.

Inside, fans will find the aforementioned board where they can place the six mysterious map fragments, and they should then switch on the nearby UV light. Doing so will reveal the Mysterious Cave code, and Fallout 76 players can now return to that location and enter it into the keypad.
What's In The Cave?
With respect to what players will find after entering the Mysterious Cave code, behind the closed door is an elevator that leads to Vault 79. Added as part of a Nuclear Winter patch that was released in October of 2021, players could not enter Vault 79 prior to the recently launched Wastelanders update, which gave the vault its interior.
Of course, changes to Vault 79 are far from the only things to be found in Fallout 76's Wastelanders update, and there is plenty of new content for players to explore. The franchise's recent success means good things for the future. This is a piece of the past that will no doubt remain relevant in future updates.
Fallout 76 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
