Telnet uses the Telnet protocol (part of the TCP/IP protocol suite) to connect to a remote computer over a network. You can execute telnet from the Command prompt.
Telnet can also test whether a port is open. This can be useful when you're having trouble connecting via IMAP/POP or when you have an SMTP appliance that won't connect. It allows you to test connectivity to a remote host on a given port, which can help diagnose the issue.
Syntax:
telnet [RemoteServer] [Port]
[RemoteServer]: specify the name of the server to which you want to connect. When you are connecting to an email server you need to use the MX record value.
[Port]: enter the port that you want to use.
