Have you ever imagined what would happen if all the money in the world disappeared tomorrow? What you and your parents do? Society has evolved in a way that the source of all our properties, infrastructure, services, etc. is money, in other words: “money does the talking” in the modern world, so what would really happen? You might be thinking; “well, we would just go back to trading” but would it really be that straight forward?
Tens of thousands of years ago, before the first coin was even invented, humans started to settle and experiment with agriculture. Inside these small communities, people would exchange services and products between each other. But the major difference from back then to nowadays; is the size of the population, and the number of different resources. Back then, people would trade simple things, for example, wheat for meat, but nowadays humans have become more dependent on resources, for instance; how would you determine the cost of a phone, or of a piece high quality clothing. It would be much harder to establish an organized trading system in the current world.
Crime and pillaging would also skyrocket. Humans have needs; we get cold, we get hungry, we get jealous, and the people which usually control and balance this (economy and law), wouldn’t be able to anymore - since everything would have lost its value. Also, doctors, police officers, the military, would have no reason to keep on doing their jobs, since they wouldn’t be earning money; nobody wants to work for free. The world would become a dangerous place, where “survival of the fittest” would become a possibility.
But maybe it wouldn’t be all that bad. The world has enough food to feed everyone, but there still are millions of starving people all over the globe. The world has enough shelter for everyone, yet there are still millions of homeless people. Without money society might learn to be happier with less, maybe “with less fortunes, there would be fewer less fortunates”. If all the money in the world disappeared, society would be given a chance to rebuild itself, possibly being the solution to various problems.
