Also, implementing authorization to control access to resources based on the authenticated user or client. This can be achieved by defining fine-grained access policies using standards like OAuth scopes. These two should be accompanied with a reliable mechanism to monitor API access and usage through logging. Apart from that for API keys, set fine-grained access permissions on each API key before distributing them to third-party developers to access the APIs.

Rate limiting and throttling is core security items while we expose our apis to internet.- We can handle unwanted traffic requests, DOS attacks using this configuration.- This is crucial to controll our infra loads in elastic cloud era. We have to manage our api server not down, or slower as well as controlling extra infra resources cost which we were never required nor used, only due bad actors or scanner, bot etc.- we also can configure rate limit on specic IP range or location wise based on our use case scenarios.

As for updating, I would disagree. You should definitely test and monitor the system, and if new issues come up that can't be handled in the current service, you should definitely update the service to prevent them. But if your system is battle-tested and running perfectly, I see no reason to update it. However, this only applies to your self-written services. If you use third-party libraries and software, you should definitely keep them up to date.

Set TTL (time to leave) for session token and authentication token.- Never use hard coded api tokens, instead of it should generate runtime api token or check token life and invalid after defined time windows.- if possible never use long window for token. Instead of it should setup refresh token request on small window I.e. every 15 mins (900 sec) to rotate token string.- also use complex algo and long string chars for token genera algo
