Here’s what else to consider
Canva is a popular online graphic design tool that allows you to create and edit various types of visual content, such as logos, flyers, posters, social media posts, and more. It has a user-friendly interface, a large library of templates, icons, fonts, and images, and a drag-and-drop functionality that makes graphic design accessible and fun. However, Canva is not without its limitations, especially if you are a professional graphic designer or need more advanced features and customization options. In this article, we will explore some of the drawbacks of using Canva for graphic design and how they can affect your work quality and efficiency.

1 Lack of originality
One of the main criticisms of Canva is that it can make your designs look generic and similar to others who use the same templates and elements. While Canva offers a variety of options to customize your designs, such as changing colors, fonts, and layouts, you are still limited by the predefined styles and formats that Canva provides. This can reduce your creative freedom and make your designs less unique and distinctive. Moreover, Canva does not allow you to create your own vector graphics, shapes, or icons, which can limit your ability to express your brand identity and vision.

2 Limited file formats
Another limitation of Canva is that it does not support all the file formats that you may need for different purposes and platforms. For example, Canva does not allow you to export your designs as PSD, AI, SVG, or EPS files, which are commonly used by professional graphic designers and software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, or Inkscape. These file formats are essential for preserving the quality and editability of your designs, especially if you need to resize, print, or share them with other designers or clients. Moreover, Canva does not support GIF, MP4, or MOV files, which are widely used for creating animated or video content.

3 Limited editing tools
Another drawback of Canva is that it does not offer the same level of editing tools and features that professional graphic design software does. For instance, Canva does not have tools for layering, masking, blending, cropping, or transforming your images and graphics. These tools are crucial for creating complex and realistic effects and compositions, such as shadows, gradients, textures, or collages. Furthermore, Canva does not have tools for adjusting the color, brightness, contrast, saturation, or hue of your images and graphics. These tools are important for enhancing the quality and mood of your visual content and making it more appealing and consistent.

I regularly use Canva to put quick stuff together but these are the things I don't like.1. Limited resolution.2. If you are displaying a bunch of text with various display times in a video, you have to have them overlapped and it is hard to click on each to edit them. 3. No quick conversion of video to animated gif.4. It would be nice to have in-video zoom and zoom out effects5. Including basic functions to animate data6. Rotoscoping would be nice7. More functions like Powerpoint has. Canva is convenient but I can make something with more features in clunky Powerpoint and just import the video into whatever. 8. Canva doesn't recognized a hashed background as supposed to being transparent.

4 Limited collaboration options
Another disadvantage of Canva is that it does not facilitate the collaboration and communication between multiple designers or stakeholders. While Canva allows you to share your designs with others via email or link, it does not have a built-in chat or comment feature that would enable you to receive feedback, suggestions, or approvals from your team members or clients. Additionally, Canva does not have a version history or track changes feature that would allow you to see the edits and revisions made by others or revert to a previous version of your design. These features are essential for managing and coordinating your graphic design projects and ensuring that everyone is on the same page.

5 Limited storage and access
Another limitation of Canva is that it requires an internet connection and a subscription to access and store your designs. Unlike offline graphic design software, Canva does not allow you to work on your designs without an internet connection or save them on your local device. This can be inconvenient and risky, especially if you have a slow or unreliable internet connection or if you encounter technical issues or glitches with Canva's platform. Moreover, Canva has a limited storage space for your designs, depending on your subscription plan. If you exceed your storage limit, you may have to delete some of your designs or upgrade to a more expensive plan.

Although Canva does require an internet connection to operate, you are able to save all of your projects on your own local device.

6 Limited support and security
Another drawback of Canva is that it does not provide the same level of support and security that professional graphic design software does. For example, Canva does not have a dedicated customer service or technical support team that you can contact in case you have any questions, problems, or complaints about Canva's platform or features. Instead, you have to rely on Canva's help center, community forum, or email support, which may not be responsive or helpful enough. Furthermore, Canva does not guarantee the security and privacy of your designs, especially if you use the free or basic plan. Canva may collect, use, or share your personal or design data with third parties, or your designs may be vulnerable to hacking or theft.

I believe every tool or application that aids graphics designer is based on how advance you are and how much you are able to manipulate the tools to work well for you. Canva still has a lot to offer. I can imagine them adding some format from adobe Photoshop. It will be so cool. Just know that designing is based on advancement. I have seen good Canva designer design and their works look like adobe Photoshop material. So, advancement is key. Push forward!
