.. so what are the rules? My neighbour says it's a bit weird and could be bad luck. I have a slight headache and about 5kg over my target weight from excessive curry, kebab and whatnot over the last week and a bit of exercise wouldn't be a bad idea.

I think you have to wash your neighbour's car too or you fall foul of some strange bye-law.

I'd be out there washing mine if it wasn't spitting freezing cold rain; lovely day to do it yesterday but I was otherwise engaged.

My partner says that, traditionally, it's bad luck to do your washing on New Years Day so I immediately stuck the machine on.
I doubt it applies to cars.

I avoided this bad luck by going to the local friendly EU migrant car wash. They do a great job while I sit in comfort!

Apparently by doing clothes washing on NYD you wash someone out of the family. Unfortunately you cannot pick who goes!

Hope it's not unlucky, 5 cars cleaned this morning between me and the neighbour! Great hangover cure.

Was outside washing and applying another layer of wax to my E Class. No qualms in washing the car New Year’s Day. Just another day of the year.

Brave you. Foolish you. How badly was the car micro scratched afterwards or are you not bothered?

Sh*t!! Just put my dressing gown in the machine as I've got a hospital appointment on Thursday and I have to take my own gown! At least no cold breeze up the arse with the hospital ones!
I lost my Sister and my Brother just before Christmas!! Can't lose any one else! Don't think I could handle it!!
Never heard of this one before!!

Since when did car washing become 'detailing' as every one seems to call it these days and why is it a science?
Rise of the internet?
Armchair experts?
Has it always been a science?
I remember washing my Dads MK1 RS with a 50p jumbo sponge from bullseye a bucket of soapy water and to finish it off I polished it using a rag and bottle of turtle wax.
My payment was a 20p mix up and a few revs with the engine on.

Since paint was made crap thanks to having to not use solvents for the sake of the environment.

Yeah, bad luck is caused by washing a car on the first day of the year...
Who comes up with this drivel ?

My Mum always said not to wash on NYE as it washes someone out but if you want on NYD then it washes someone in. The washing machine has been on today and I've washed my car.

Car washing is now a hobby for some.

Since people who have no idea about actual detailing refer to every little bit of car cleaning as detailing. There is a bit of science behind actual detailing but washing or valeting a car is still just that.
Also there’s certain cleaning brands that are in with the ‘scene’ types so they can’t possibly just wash their car!

Did the TTs ready to sell yesterday and our 2 dailies today - I was out at 9:30 with the jet wash much to the apparent dismay of the curtain twitchers (who chose to not end their house party till 4am)
