To help you explore new places in the real world, PokéStops you haven't previously visited will appear surrounded by rings. Once you spin the Photo Disc, the ring will disappear indicating that you've explored this location. As you explore, you may occasionally come across Gold-colored PokéStops.

Walk up to a gray-colored Gym. Touch the Gym to enter it. At the bottom of the screen, touch the Add Pokémon button. Select a Pokémon to add to the Gym.

Pokestops, and Gyms, are visible on the map when you are close enough to see them, at your current map zoom level.. Remember that the map itself, and any nearby Pokestops and Gyms, change constantly as you move your location, rotate the map, or zoom in or out.

We will remove PokéStops or Gyms from Pokémon GO for a very specific and limited set of reasons: There's no longer safe pedestrian access to the location. The PokéStop or Gym obstructs or interferes with Emergency Services' ability to perform normal operations.

Gyms are points of interest found throughout the world where Trainers can battle the Pokémon of rival teams. Trainers from opposing teams battle for control of the Gyms. Each Gym can have up to six Pokémon assigned to defend it.

There is a hard limit of 20 Pokemon that can defend Gyms in Pokemon GO at one time. Players can gain benefits by battling at Gyms and defending them with their Pokemon. The limit is in place to prevent players from unfairly dominating Gyms and to limit PokeCoin earnings.

Most new portals are converted to Pokemon GO and become either pokestops or gyms. The algorithms that decide which portals are converted to Pokemon GO and which become Gyms are based on a mathematical concept called S2 cells.

Converting PokeStops into Gyms

Active players level 38 and above can nominate new locations as PokeStops through the app. If a nominated location gets approved and sees a lot of player activity, it has a chance to be transformed into a gym during Niantic's periodic review of the game map.

To make a nomination in Pokemon Go, you will need to be at level 37 and have an adult account. Players that have not reached this level will not be able to send in any nominations, therefore it is worth building your rank before getting in touch with Niantic about opening up a Pokestop.

Once you reach level 5 and visit a Gym, you can choose to join of three teams: Instinct (yellow), Mystic (blue), or Valor (red). You'll stick with your team throughout your Pokémon GO journey, so choose wisely! Trainers from opposing teams battle for control of Gyms, which is reflected by the color of the Gym.

Enter the Gym - Tap a Gym while a raid is in progress. To join remotely, you can also go to the Nearby screen and tap “View” under the raid you want to join.

Easy Steps to Join a Team in Pokemon Go

Once you reach level 5 in Pokemon Go, the door to join a team swings wide open. You'll need to visit a Gym, where you'll be greeted by the leaders of Team Mystic, Team Valor, and Team Instinct. It's your choice which team to align with!

First, get to trainer level 38. Then, find the location you think would be great for a gym, open the app, tap on the menu, and hit 'New PokéStop. ' Follow the instructions to submit photos and information. Voilà, you've nominated a gym!
