Does a Visa credit card have fraud protection? ›

You're protected if your Visa credit or debit card is lost, stolen or fraudulently used, online or offline. Visa's Zero Liability Policy does not apply to certain commercial card and anonymous prepaid card transactions or transactions not processed by Visa.

Call the Benefit Administrator at 1-888-221-3289, within sixty (60) days of the damage or theft (if You wait longer, coverage may be denied). The Benefit Administrator will ask for some preliminary claim information, answer Your questions and send You a claim form.

The Visa Zero Liability policy provides you with protection against fraud**. Should someone steal your Visa card number, you pay nothing for their fraudulent activity.

After all insurance or indemnity has been exhausted, Purchase Security will cover the theft or damage up to the amount charged to your eligible Visa account and subject to the terms, exclusions, and limits of liability of the Benefit.

If you investigate and find that the transaction indeed stems from fraud, as the credit card holder, you still enjoy certain protections — including the option of requesting a refund of the fraudulent charge with your card issuer.

Did you pay with a credit card or debit card? Contact the company or bank that issued the credit card or debit card. Tell them it was a fraudulent charge. Ask them to reverse the transaction and give you your money back.

Nearly all of today's top credit cards offer zero fraud liability on unauthorized charges, which means you won't owe a penny on any charge determined to be fraudulent. Debit cards also limit your fraud liability but require you to report your lost or stolen card within two business days to limit your liability to $50.

Debit card payment protection

You don't get protection from Section 75 if you buy goods on a debit card – this is because they are not part of a credit agreement. However, you might be able to make a claim for a refund under Chargeback, which we cover in a section below.
