Build-Up[]

Version 2.0 had a lot of hype towards it during the Version 1.9 days. With a playerbase that was growing by the second, there was bound to be a lot of build-up.

Due to the Steam Release of the game in Version 1.9, the game had blown up in popularity, causing many people to be interested in the next update. RobTop would leave the Version up for interpretation until he released the first Teaser for Version 2.0. This first Teaser got people interested in what was coming soon.

After a short amount of time, another Teaser would be released, depicting that new block design was going to be made possible. This was the last Teaser shown to the public in 2014.

In 2015, four new Teasers were released to the public. These showed the Community some hints to what's coming in the Update, increasing the amount of attention drawn to it.

After these Teasers, three new Sneak Peeks were released on RobTop's YouTube channel, RobTopGames. These showed previews of what was going to be shown in the Update. This includes previews of the new Main Levels and the new Editor functions. These previews are what eventually lead to the release of Version 2.0.

  • New Icons:
    • Two new Cubes.
    • A new Wave.
  • Bug fixes.
  • An Anti-Cheat engine on Steam to prevent Speed Hacking with the Steam version.
  • The Dart was renamed to the Wave after some backlash.

Creator Impact[]

Version 2.0 changed the Creation of Levels drastically. Not only did new functions get added to the Editor, the Color IDs and Object IDs were also increased by a substantial amount.

Due to the addition of Text, Creators were able to easily send out a message in a level without taking the time to make text with the blocks available to them. Not only that, but the new Block Designs gave Creators some new ideas for Block Design in their Levels. This increased the amount of Decoration in a level during this time, which was done tastefully and not tastefully.

Another cool thing that Creators had access to, were User Coins. Creators were able to place three of these User Coins in their Level and could even get them to be actually collected by Players if RobTop approved of the Coins.

For Gameplay, Creators had a rough time adjusting themselves to the new mechanics, such as the Move Triggers. This would be important for the impact for Players, which will be explained later on.

However, as Creators got more used to the Move Triggers and the other Triggers in general, the Decoration of Levels became astronomically better, compared to the Version 1.9 Levels.

Player Impact[]

Version 2.0 helped Players as well. New Icons helped Players realize which Icons they wanted to use instead of their old ones. Not only that, but Players were now able to save their progress on an Account, so that they don't lose any progress after deleting the game. Players were also now exposed to Account Profiles. This gave Players the opportunity to communicate with other Players of Geometry Dash.

Another big addition that Players were quite fond of was the newest Demon Main Level released to the public, Deadlocked. This was by far the hardest Main Level for most people, with especially the Wave of Deadlocked being the reason for that.

Another huge improvement to the game was the addition of User Coins. These were collectible Coins that can be placed in Community Levels. This addition gave Players a reason to collect them and it made the Levels a little more interesting to play. However, levels with verified Coins were often attacked for having Coins that were too easy to get. Even popular Creators, such as ViPriN, were associated with this opinion.

With this Version came a new addition to the game, named The Vault. This was a secret that many Players were interested in. Players all over the world tried to figure out the codes necessary, by digging into the code of the game.

When it came down to the Community Levels, however, Players weren't too fond of the direction of the Gameplay. The Move Triggers were a massive reason for this hatred towards Version 2.0 Levels, but also the awkward transitions that came with the Teleportation Portals were a huge problem for Players.

When it came to the Early 2.0 Era for Decoration, Players also weren't too happy with the direction it was going. Many Players, even p*Color Triggers were raised up to 999 Color IDs.opular ones like Riot, had their reasons for hating the Decoration. For many, it was too messy and thought that the Version 1.9 days were the times that they wanted to relive.

Both the Decoration and Gameplay in Early Version 2.0 were reasons that Players either considered quitting or actually ended up quitting the game. However, as time progressed through Version 2.0, Players were exposed to Levels that put more effort into the Gameplay and Decoration, which gave them a reason to give these levels a chance.

Trivia[]

  • This Version is often hated by the Community for the weird direction in Gameplay and Decoration.
  • There were many ideas before Version 2.0 came out that looked a lot different as the final product than before that Update came out.
  • RobTop tried to change the name of the Wave to the Dart, but realized that the Community did not accept that in the slightest.
  • There were a lot of other Monsters that were going to be released in Version 2.0 that ended up getting scrapped.
  • The Mushroom Icon was tweaked a lot before it was eventually released in Version 2.0.
  • The second Teaser was a reference to the Super Mario Bros. franchise.
