Tinder, one of the world's top dating apps, is making user safety a priority with new warnings aimed at creating a more secure and respectful dating space. The updates, rolling out globally soon, specifically target the app's main users aged 18-25, guiding appropriate behaviour and a chance to correct actions.

“Globally, online dating is now the most common way for singles to meet new people, with 53% of people under 30 using dating apps. As the leading dating app, we want to provide our users with the best experience and the best opportunity to discover new authentic connections in a safe, fun and respectful environment. This is particularly important for younger users who are new to online dating,” said Says Nicole Blumenfeld, VP of Trust & Safety Operations, at Tinder.

According to Blumenfeld, these warnings are designed to provide transparency and to alert users when they are not engaging in acceptable and respectful behaviour. “By providing greater transparency to users about their behaviour, not only are we enabling them to immediately ‘course correct’ but also foster a better experience for the wider Tinder community,” she added.

The new warnings aim to bring transparency, enabling users to adjust their behaviour for a better community experience.

Upon creating a profile, users are informed about Tinder's recently updated ‘community guidelines,’ which outline expected behaviours on the app. Any account reported for violating these guidelines faces the risk of removal from the platform.

According to Tinder, the introduced warnings are categorised into three main areas: Authenticity, respectfulness, and inclusiveness. They address in-app behaviour, including harassment, as well as protect users from advertising and impersonation. Tinder employs real-time machine learning features like 'Does This Bother You' and 'Are You Sure,' alongside advanced technology monitoring and human verification, to detect breaches of its community guidelines.

When a violation is detected, users receive in-app warnings from 'Team Tinder,' providing a detailed explanation of the violation and broader information about expected behaviour. Warnings will remain visible and cannot be deleted, with the possibility of profile removal for repeated violations.

This update reflects Tinder's commitment to trust and safety, promising a more secure and respectful dating atmosphere.

In the past year, Tinder also introduced other security features on the platform, such as ‘incognito mode,’ which allows you to hide your profile from other people while still letting them swipe left or right on others, allowing unpaid users to block others, removing social handles from public bios, etc.
