We are inching closer to Paramount having a new owner. Skydance, the media company led by David Ellison, is in exclusive talks with Paramount’s independent directors to finalize a deal to merge the two companies.
Paramount’s controlling stockholder Shari Redstone has tentatively agreed to sell her holdings to Ellison. That deal only happens if Ellison can close the Paramount-Skydance merger. Paramount’s board has been less enthusiastic than Redstone, but the company and Skydance have agreed to the general framework of a transaction and are close enough that they have given themselves a month to finish things.
