The rarest and most expensive amiibo figures, explained (2024)

At the time of writing, there are well over 200 different kinds of amiibo figures (and counting)! A good chunk of those are long out of stock, out of print, or just extremely difficult to find. It’s easy to see why, too — evenbefore the pandemic, Nintendo didn’t reprint many of their rare figurines. Now that the pandemic has hit, amiibo production has slowed down even further. As a result, it’s highly unlikely that every single amiibo figure ever released will become available again. We’ve gathered some of the rarest amiibo in existence, plus a little history lesson about each one! The list is current and up-to-date as of June 2023.

For most readers, pictures will be the only way you’ll ever see these amiibo figures. If you manage to see or even purchase one physically, consider yourself lucky! These figurines are the rarest of the rare. As a side note, there exist golden versions of Monster Hunter series amiibo — but these were only distributed as prizes in a competition. They’re incredibly rare (mainly because there are only a couple of them in existence), but we won’t be including them here because they were never made available to the average consumer.

Rare amiibo List

  • Qbby is by far and away the single rarest amiibo figure there is. The simple white box with eyes? It’s easily over $300, even out of box. It was only ever produced and released in Japan, and it was packaged with the physical version of one of his 3DS entries. Given that this amiibo is essentially region-exclusive, it’s highly unlikely you’ll find one sitting in an American thrift store or something similar. Any listings selling Qbby for $100 or less are good deals — and that’s saying something, because even $100 is a huge asking price for a little box dude.
  • The Splatoon 3-Pack, which is essentially a set of recolors of existing Splatoon series amiibo, is another rare find. If you’re not super into amiibo, this can be kind of confusing. The common 3-pack includes an orange Inkling Girl, a green Inkling Squid, and a blue Inkling Boy. The extra-rare 3-pack includes a green Inkling Girl, an orange Inkling Squid, and a purple Inkling Boy. Individually, each of these easily fetches $60. As a sealed unit, the alternate colors 3-pack usually sells for about $200. Sheesh!
  • The Mii Fighters are strange, because at one point stores had too many of them. They received an absolutely gigantic stock at Toys “R” Us back in 2015, but haven’t been restocked since. Some of them received over a hundred Mii Fighter three-packs each! These didn’t sell through, and were eventually shipped out to Five Below for a deep discount. Nowadays, all three Mii Fighters out of box go for about $90. Individually, you’re looking at about $30 each.
  • Mega Yarn Yoshi isn’t actually as megaas he might seem. It’s less than a foot tall, so it’s still pretty small compared to the size of other plushies. Even so, this thing retailed for $39.99 when it first released, and was initially a Toys “R” Us exclusive. Just like some of the other figurines listed here, Mega Yarn Yoshi stopped receiving additional print and became super-expensive. It’s now well over $180 new in box. If you manage to get one, don’t spill your drink all over it by accident! You won’t be able to get a replacement.
  • A yarn version of Poochy released for Poochy + Yoshi’s Woolly World on Nintendo 3DS, and it never restocked! This little guy generally sells for about $90 loose. Thing is, I personally wouldn’t buy any of the yarn amiibo out of box. What if the previous owner got a stain on it or it smells weird? For that reason, Poochy sells for even more complete in box — somewhere around $130.
  • Gold Mega Man. This one mightnot count. Gold Mega Man does have aSuper Smash Bros.series base, but was only sold with the Nintendo 3DS version ofMega Man Legacy Collection. This collection has disappeared both in stores and online, which means the amiibo has too. If you’re trying to purchase the Gold Mega Man figure on its own, you’re looking at at least $80 out of box. By the way, if you see a listing for a new in box Gold Mega Man but notice that the box is white and bland, that’s not a mistake — that’s actually how this figure shipped.
  • Joker. “Looking cool, Joker!” is whateveryonethought when his amiibo figure was first revealed. Not only was his figurine highly detailed and colorful, but it was propped up on an astounding fiery blue stand. As you might guess, pre-orders sold out rather fast and were never restocked afterward. Joker is an extremely popular character, so that much makes sense. Nowadays, you likely won’t find a Joker amiibo for less than $70 — even out of box.
  • Solaire of Astora isn’t quite as rare as the other characters on this list, as it only fetches about $60. That being said, Solaire has a serious counterfeit problem — several knock-off units appeared and found their way into the mix. If you wind up purchasing a knock-off, the figurine won’t scan when used in-game because there’s no NFC chip inside! Be very, very careful when purchasing Solaire second-hand. As far as I know, there’s no easy way to tell if the figurine is a counterfeit.

Corrin (Player 2) used to be part of this list, but she actually received a pretty substantial restock a few months ago! She used to sell for about $200, but her value has now plummeted to around $25. That just goes to show you that you shouldn’t purchase super-rare amiibo in droves specifically to resell — although uncommon, Nintendo can restock any amiibo whenever it wants and absolutely crush its market value.

Speaking of market value, we also have a post detailing the cost of every single Super Smash Bros. series amiibo. It’s updated for 2023, so if you’re interested in amiibo prices now it’s definitely a good read! If you’re looking to actually use the amiibo figures you’ve purchased, we have a full set of signature amiibo training guides for every character. Take a look at them via the link below!
