With so many responsibilities and stresses in life, it is easy to simply be reactive while trying to keep your head above water.I have people tell me the things they wish they could do but they are just too busy. Well, today is "Day One"for the rest of your life.Stop making excuses and carve out more time for yourself. The most important investment you can make is the investment in yourself. You can start small, even ten minutes of undistracted time a day for one week can make a difference. There are infinite number of ways to grow both personally and professionally. If you are not trying to grow, you will stay stagnant and your competition and the world will fly past you.

Here are a few things I recommend investing in:

Invest in your skills:Whether you want to be stronger at public speaking, project management, social media, effective writing, conflict resolution, coding or any other skill - sign up for a (virtual) course, read a book, watch some YouTube videos, talk to other professionals - but write down what you want to improve upon and take action on it.

Invest in your network: Always grow your network. The more people you know, the more opportunities that can arise.I try to participate in a minimum of one new event (virtually or in-venue) every week.I am constantly trying to network with other senior leaders or thought leaders in Sales, Marketing and Event Planning.I find talking with other professionals outside of my company (or even my industry) not only expands my network, but helps me broaden my perspective.Every week, I make it a point to connect with at least 20 new people either through seminars, events or Linkedin contacts.

Invest in your current relationships:The network you currently have is one of your most precious assets. It is important to continue to strengthen your relationships.Anytime I come across an idea or article that I think others in my network would benefit from, I make it a priority to reach them and share it.I also make it a goal to touch base with at least 10 people in my network every week and share something interesting or valuable that they did not expect. I find trying to help people without expecting anything is one of the best long-term investments you can make.

Invest in your health: For you to be at your best, it is important you take care of yourself.Working out, eating well, sleeping well, meditating are not only important for you personally- but also professionally. All work no play is not healthy for anyone. You will be more creative and productive in the long-run if you invest in your physical and mental health.

Takeaway: Today is "Day One" of the rest of your life! Start with one thing you want to improve on and schedule at least ten minutes a day and start working on it. Invest in yourself!
