1. Arians have been called the “archetypal” Christian heretics; accusations of Arianism have been made in almost every century since the fourth. Taking its name from an Egyptian priest, Arius, this heresy holds that Jesus, while the son of God, is neither eternal nor as fully divine as God the father. 2.

Adoptionism – belief that Jesus was born merely human and that he became divine later in his life. Apollinarism – belief that Jesus had a human body and lower soul (the seat of the emotions) but a divine mind.

In this heresy, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are three modes, roles, or faces of a single Person: God. This heresy is strictly monotheistic, rejecting the truth that there are three divine Persons.
