Getting Stock Fundamental and Real-time Data

Wisesheets is a fantastic Excel stock add-in that makes bringing stock data into your spreadsheets easy. With Wisesheets, you can access both real-time and historical stock information, such as prices, financials, dividends, and key metrics.

This add-in simplifies the process of gathering complete financial data and important metrics for any company with just one click. It also allows for customized analysis using special Excel functions, making your investment tasks much more straightforward.

Instead of being limited to analyzing only a few stocks at once, Wisesheets enables you to assess hundreds of stocks simultaneously, helping you find investment opportunities more quickly.

Different Features of Wisesheets

Financials

Through clicking on Financials, entering the company's ticker you want to analyze, such as, Netflix (NFLX) in this case, you can get either annual or quarterly data. You can then dive deeper into stock analysis. Instantly, you'll have the stock's income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, key metrics, and growth metrics neatly arranged in different tabs of your spreadsheet.

This allows you to identify trends and create reports and visualizations that allow you to generate high-level insights about a stock.

WISE function

Instead of getting a lot of stock data at once, you can get only the data you want and build any type of stock model, such as a DCF or screener, right on your spreadsheet. This works by entering the company ticker, parameter, and period into the function, and Wisesheets handles the rest.

WISEPRICE function

The WISEPIRCE function delivers essential stock data, including dividend payments, historical prices, and real-time prices. Simply input the ticker and parameter to access real-time stock data for over 50,000 stocks and ETFs globally. Whenever needed, you can press the refresh button, and the data will update automatically.

With this function, you can track thousands of stocks simultaneously and find investment-worthy opportunities leveraging dividend data, historical price data, and real-time stock information.

Wise Templates

Getting the hang of using the WISE and WISEPRICE functions in Excel can take some effort. Fortunately, Wise templates make this easier by providing ready-made stock templates for immediate use. Whether you need to compare companies on key metrics, conduct a DCF analysis, monitor multiple stocks in real-time, review historical dividend payments, or visualize company fundamentals, you can do it all with just one click using these templates.

The Pros and Cons of using an Excel Stock Add-in

In the current market, there are many tools available for investors. Some prefer using Excel stock add-ins, while others favor web or desktop applications. Each option comes with its own advantages and disadvantages, which should be weighed before deciding.

Pros of using an add-in

  • Excel stock add-ins are straightforward to set up and use. This makes them ideal for those new to investment tools.
  • These add-ins are generally inexpensive. This provides a budget-friendly solution for managing investments.
  • Excel stock add-ins can be customized to meet your specific needs.
  • These tools are versatile. This allows you to perform a range of tasks. These include tracking stock prices, analyzing financial reports, and comparing company metrics, all within a single platform.

Pros of using an add-in

  • With many options available, it can be challenging to find the add-in that best suits your needs.
  • Although Excel is user-friendly, mastering an add-in's specific functions can take time. There's a learning curve involved, especially if you want to use advanced features for detailed analysis.
  • Excel add-ins typically focus on financial data and might not include other important information like news or market sentiment.

The Decision

The choice of investment tool depends on your particular use case scenario. If you prioritize quick setup, affordability, and customization, an Excel stock add-in might be the right choice for you. However, if you need a more comprehensive solution with a wider range of data, web or desktop applications might be better suited.

Hello! I'm a finance enthusiast who fell in love with the world of finance at 15, devouring Warren Buffet's books and streaming Berkshire Hathaway meetings like a true fan.

I started my career in the industry at one of Canada's largest REITs, where I honed my skills analyzing and facilitating over a billion dollars in commercial real estate deals.

My passion led me to the stock market, but I quickly found myself spending more time gathering data than analyzing companies.

That's when my team and I created Wisesheets, a tool designed to automate the stock data gathering process, with the ultimate goal of helping anyone quickly find good investment opportunities.

Today, I juggle improving Wisesheets and tending to my stock portfolio, which I like to think of as a garden of assets and dividends. My journey from a finance-loving teenager to a tech entrepreneur has been a thrilling ride, full of surprises and lessons.

I'm excited for what's next and look forward to sharing my passion for finance and investing with others!

  1. I don't understand your WisePrice function. Are you saying I have to constantly refresh my data? That doesn't make any sense.

I just want to download a live feed into Excel and have it automatically perform the functions I already set in my spreadsheet. I want to import one column of one minute data and then compare it to the live feed in another column. The first column constantly updates per minute but then the second column is updating per real time data.

Seems pretty straightforward to me. Can your software do this?

    Reply

    1. Right now, we only have real-time data and daily historical price data only so this is not possible yet.
