Apple 's choice of a literal apple as its logo is a decision steeped in symbolism, history, and a touch of serendipity. The logo, which has evolved over time but retained its fundamental apple shape, has become one of the most iconic corporate symbols in the world. The decision to use an apple as a logo can be attributed to several factors and influences.
Apple 's founders, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak , were known for their rebellious and counter-cultural approach to technology. In the early days of the company, they wanted to challenge the status quo of the computing industry, which was dominated by large, faceless corporations. The Apple logo was a way to communicate their break from tradition and their mission to create user-friendly, accessible computers.
Choosing a name as ordinary as "Apple" was a deliberate departure from the norm in the tech industry, which often used more technical or abstract names. The founders of Apple were aware of the benefits of being near the front of the Yellow Pages or any other alphabetical listing. Having a name that started with "A" would give them a prominent position in directories and listings, making it easier for potential customers to find them.

Rob Janoff , the graphic designer who created the logo in 1977, has mentioned that the bite was added to the apple simply to avoid any confusion with a cherry. The colourful, friendly logo was designed to make computing more approachable and less intimidating. The bite, which adds a distinctive and playful touch, contributed to the logo's memorability. While Janoff designed the original logo, subsequent iterations of the Apple logo have been created by other designers as the company evolved.
