Why do I have to mail my tax return? ›
Who needs to mail their tax return? You might need to file by mail if your return is continuously rejected. This can happen if you are trying to claim a dependent already claimed or if your information doesn't match IRS records. However, e-file rejections are often due to typos or missing information.
You can have a refund check mailed to you, or you may be able to have your refund deposited directly into your bank account. Direct Deposit into a bank account is more secure because there is no check to get lost. And it takes the U.S. Treasury less time than issuing a paper check.
