5.0 / 5

The Target Credit Card is a good credit card that’s worth it for anyone with fair credit or better who regularly shops at Target. The Target RedCard, as it’s also known, has a $0 annual fee and offers 5% discount back on all Target purchases, including those made at Starbucks locations within Target stores.

Target Credit Card Review Highlights

Save 5% on most Target purchases

The Target Store Credit Card, also known as the RedCard, gives cardholders an indefinite 5% off sale on pretty much everything except pharmacy purchases, gift cards, wireless protection plans and a few other items. That’s a great deal, with the potential to save you hundreds of dollars per year, if Target is one of your favorite stores.

Don’t worry about yearly fees

The Target RedCard doesn’t charge an annual fee, which always makes it easier to justify opening a credit card just for purchases at a single store. This also saves you $22.22 compared to the average credit card, according to WalletHub’s latest Credit Card Landscape Report.

Enjoy 30 extra days for returns

Simply having a Target Credit Card gives you 30extra days to return purchases for a refund, on top of each item’s standard return window. That extra time could be a life-saver for someone with a busy schedule.

Get free shipping from Target.com

The Target RedCard makes it easier to shop online, thanks to the free standard shipping it gives you on all Target.com orders. So as long as you don’t need something at the last minute, you won’t have to pay extra for doing your shopping from home with a Target Card.

Qualify with “fair” credit

You only need “fair” credit to qualify for the Target RedCard, which means it’s possible to get approved with a credit score of just 620. You can see if you’re in the ballpark by checking your credit score for free on WalletHub.

How hard is it to get the Target Credit Card?

Reply

It is not hard to get the Target Credit Card because you only need fair credit to qualify, which means you should have good approval odds with a credit score of 640 or higher. You also need to have a steady income, an SSN and a valid ID, which is standard.

Just keep in mind that even though it's not especially hard to get the Target Credit Card, you're still not guaranteed to be approved.

The Target Red Card did not permit me to manage my account to pay my bills, and eventually, they sent my account to an agency that cannot update my statement balance on their automation after I made a payment. The same pattern occurs with the Target Red Card.

I called the 800 number and talked to Peter (who wouldn't give me his last name) and he said he was a supervisor. I was near my limit and asked what I could do to place another order. He said it would take 24-48 hours to process a payment. I then asked what would happen to my automatic payment if he processed the payment and he said it would be processed again. I asked if he could stop this and he said no. None of this makes sense. Hopefully, the call was recorded, and he will receive some more training.

Complete garbage. Applied online to get a discount, let me charge but wouldn’t give me the card number. Unable to set up an account without the complete card number. Takes two months to get card via mail, and by the time I set up an online account, I've already got late payment charges. The account won’t allow automatic payment setup. This is the worst credit card company I’ve ever dealt with. I'm happy to pay 5% more to never deal with them again.

Worst customer service I've ever encountered with a credit card, and a high interest rate to boot. Any time we have tried to make a large payment, they have held up the funds without actually crediting them to our account balance. In order to successfully pay, you must make multiple small payments or wait weeks for them to actually process the payments. Now they have closed our card after 23 years due to an error on their end. They never tried to pull funds from our bank and rejected payment twice, despite my having spoken to their agents multiple times and being assured everything was fine. Saving 5% is not worth the horrible service.

Horrible! There has been fraud on my account since August, and no one has assisted me. It keeps affecting my credit and accruing interest. The first claim was submitted in August 2023. They told me it was sent to the wrong department, as it was filed as a dispute instead of fraud, so they didn't transfer it to the appropriate department. They declined it and sent me a letter. I then addressed the issues they outlined, which I did, and I've had to send that letter four times, yet they still haven't resolved the issue. It is now March 2024, and I have not received any help. I haven't spent any more money at Target since this incident, and I refuse to shop there anymore. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

I am going through the exact same thing with Target. I will be submitting a complaint of my own. I am also going to be contacting the BBB. I've called them multiple times and have not gotten a call back from them once. They said that I am responsible for a credit card payment I did not open - someone opened with an incorrect license number, target approved and now they are saying that I am responsible to pay. This is theft!
