What Engine Does the Ram TRX Use?

Like any vehicle, the power of the Ram TRX begins under the hood. The TRX is home to a supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8, formerly exclusively used in the Dodge Hellcat models. In the TRX, the Hellcat engine rips out a heart-pounding 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This power gives drivers a top speed of 118 MPH and a 0-60 time of just 4.5 seconds. This launch time is thanks in part to the launch control feature. This gives the driver the ability to select a RPM for the truck to launch at, providing the fastest launch time possible. The twin-screw supercharger under the hood of the TRX achieves a maximum speed of 14,600 RPM and regulates up to 11 PSI of boost. A supercharger this powerful requires a lot of cold air, which is why the Ram TRX employs a hood scoop leading to a massive airbox capable of taking on 32.9 liters of air per minute and filtering out four times more debris than its Ford counterpart. The flow-through 'RAM' lettering provides even more cold air with a completely unobstructed grille. Linked to the engine is a robust high torque enabled eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters.

While the TRX's phenomenal performance begins under the hood, its 4x4 system makes it the off-road monster it is intended to be. Ram gave the TRX a full-time 4x4 system providing unrivaled traction no matter where you take it. The 4x4 system puts the driver in charge with eight selectable drive modes, Auto, Sport, Custom, Rock, Baja, Sand/Mud, Tow, and Snow. Auto mode uses wheel sensors to detect traction or a lack thereof and adapt by altering torque distribution. Meanwhile, Sport mode splits torque by 70% to the rear axle and 30% to the front axle, alters the gear mapping, tightens the suspension, and shortens the transmission shift times, all to provide exhilarating on-road performance. Custom allows the driver to select their preferred settings, manually setting the steering feel, torque split, suspension stiffness, and transmission shift points, giving them a personalized driving experience. Rock mode shifts the 4x4 system into an even 50/50 torque split and uses the lowest possible gear ratio to provide high torque at low rock-crawling speeds. The Selec-Speed system is essentially cruise control for off-roading and will maintain a speed of 0.6 to 5 MPH when rock mode is selected so the driver can focus on steering while the system controls the speed. Baja mode makes adjustments to the transmission and traction control systems and slows the transmission shift times by 68% to provide superior control on sand dunes. The Bilstein suspension system is adjusted to allow for full compression, and the steering is altered to allow for moderate oversteer. Mud/Sand mode optimizes torque distribution and throttle position to enhance traction on loose gravel or mud to prevent slippage. Tow mode adjusts transmission shift points and shifts to a lower transfer case gear ratio to provide better torque while hauling cargo. Lastly, Snow mode optimizes engine output and splits engine torque by 55% in the rear and 45% in the front to provide excellent launch times and traction on ice or snow.
