Der SRI ist ein standardisierter Risikoindikator, der sowohl dieVolatilitäteines Finanzinstruments (Marktrisiko) als auch die Bonität der Emittent:innen berücksichtigt (Kreditrisiko).
Bei Investmentfonds fließt nur das Marktrisiko in die Berechnung ein, da Investmentfonds gemäßInvFG2011alsSondervermögenaufgelegt werden und daher die Bonität der verwaltenden Gesellschaft keinen Einfluss hat. Eine Ausnahme bei der Berechnung des SRI bilden sogenannte „Garantiefonds“, da bei diesen Fonds die Garantie durch ein externes Kreditinstitut gewährt wird, dessen Bonität in der Berechnung des SRI berücksichtigt wird.
Als Ergebnis dieser Kombination gibt es eine Einstufung auf einer 7-teiligen Skala, wobei 1 das geringste und 7 das höchste Risiko darstellt.
