I’m trying out the listserv I created for the GBCI network. Mary Ann Lomba (CVC Unido) asked me a question about selective service: For an applicant who is 28 years of age and did not register for Selective Service, the N-400 tells them to fill out a “Status Information Letter.” What is the deal with this?
Please reply if you can help us out. What is the “Status Information Letter”? Can the applicant apply or does the “Letter” need to be received first?

The Status Information Letter is a letter provided the Selective Service System that indicates whether a requirement to register for the Selective Service existed for that applicant.
Applicants who are at least 31 do not need to submit the Status Information Letter. For those applicants between the ages of 26 and 31, they should be prepared to bring the Status Information Letter with them to the interview, if they are not able to submit it with the N-400. After sending the request, it typically takes 3 to 4 weeks for the applicant to receive the Status Information Letter. Please let me know if anyone has further questions about this, or anything else.
