Origins []
Being the face of the franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog makes his first true appearance from the first game in the series, Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega Genesis. Prior to the release of the game, Sonic made appearances in other SEGA games like Rad Mobile and Puzzle Construction.
He later received a redesign during Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast, which is the design seen today.
Appearance []
Sonic's appearance in Sonic Speed Simulator is based off of his modern look, which has been in use since 1998. He rocks his iconic cobalt blue fur, green eyes, and dons his iconic red shoes and white gloves.
Obtaining Method []
Sonic Speed Simulator: Reborn[]
Sonic is obtained by completing all 5 tasks of Green Hill Adventure, where the last quest has you reach level 25 to complete.
He was also unlocked by completing Sonic's fifth quest in Green Hill Zone: "Stepping Up", which had the player reach level 75 to complete.
He was also available to purchase in Wave 1 of the Red Star Rings Store for 750 .
Sonic Speed Simulator Classic[]
Sonic used to be unlocked by collecting his Character Card in Green Hill. The card was located on a rail suspended nearby the world's spawn area and could be most easily accessed through the use of a spring.
Trivia []
- Sonic has the most skins in the game, with a grand total of 23. He also has 2 Transformations and 3 variants, one of which has skins of his own.The early skin portrait and menu pose from the pre-release beta, which was also visible on his character card, is based on his main artwork from Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II. Which itself is based on his pose from the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis) title screen.
- His menu pose is based on one of his 3D stock renders.
- His previous menu pose (and some of his skins’ current menu poses) was based on a rare piece of Sonic Adventure artwork.
- He rail grinds the same way as he does in Sonic Advance 2.
- His running and boost animations are based on his running and boosting animations from Sonic Frontiers.
- His knockback/backslide animation is taken directly from Sonic Adventure 2, where Sonic does a unique pose when landing on and facing the ledge he lands on.
- He has a similar animation for sliding forward. Landing while facing down on the ledge will result in a walking animation. However, if something is stopping you, you will be able to perform the forward slide animation. It's easiest to do on NPC/Event podiums. This animation is available for all the characters, however they are mostly broken as a result of reusing Sonic’s forward sliding animation (e.g: Classic Sonic’s socks separating from his shoes).
- His hoverboard pose is based on the way Sonic rides his Extreme Gear in Sonic Riders, at a decent speed.
- His renders are based on his renders from Shadow the Hedgehog and Super Smash Bros. Brawl respectively.
- Rarity changed from Legendary to Rare during the Knuckles Update.
- Received an idle animation during the Jewel Rush event, based on the iconic finger wag we've seen him do since the very first Sonic the Hedgehog game, and in various title screens, which he also does in Sonic Speed Simulator.
- Received Zebra Sonic's animations for walking, jogging and running during the Cheetah Shadow Event.
- The old animations can be seen on Fake Metal Sonic, which were based on his run cycle in Sonic Adventure.
- Received a new model with new eye textures, Super Sonic's shoes, muzzle shape and rail grinding animation, Movie Sonic's idle, spawn, running and boosting animations, Zebra Sonic's spring animation and Silver's brake animation during the Quest Overhaul Update. The quest giver was also updated. However, some of his skins keep the old animations, textures and model.
- His spawn animation was originally based on the opening CGI cutscene of Sonic and the Secret Rings, or the animation that plays when entering a stage in said game.
- Sonic's previous stance as a quest giver is similar to the way he stands in the first ever playable build of Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), that was shown off in the 1990 Tokyo Toy Show.
- Sonic received his new model in his Character Select icon during the Space Colony Ark Update.
