Share your real-time location with others - Android (2024)

You can choose who can find your location and how long to share your location with Google Location Sharing.

Tip: Other Google products may also allow you to share a one-time location with others.

People you share your location with can always find:

  • Your name and photo.
  • Your device’s recent locationeven when Google apps aren’t being used.
  • Your device’s battery powerand if it’s charging.
  • Your arrival and departure timeif they add a Location Sharing notification.

They may also find other info depending on how you’re sharing.

Location Sharing availability

Location Sharing works even when Location History is turned off.

You may get a warning when you open Location Sharing. Common causes include:

  • You're in a country or region where you can’t share your location.
  • Location Sharing isn’t available for your Google Workspace domain. To turn on Location Sharing,ask your administrator.
  • You're too young to share your location.
    • If your account is managed by a parent or guardian, they can manage Location Sharing with the Family Link AppShare your real-time location with others - Android (1).

Share your location

Share with a person who has a Google Account

  1. If you haven't already, add their Gmail address to your Google Contacts.
  2. ​On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app Share your real-time location with others - Android (3)and sign in.Learn how to sign in.​
  3. Tap your profile picture or initialShare your real-time location with others - Android (4)Share your real-time location with others - Android (5) Location sharing Share your real-time location with others - Android (6)New shareShare your real-time location with others - Android (7).
  4. Choose how long you want to share your location.
  5. Tap the profile of the person with whom you want to share your location. If asked about your contacts, give Google Maps access.
  6. Tap Send.

If you have issues with your location sharing for more than 24 hours:

  1. Verify your age.
  2. If age verification didn’t fix the issue:
    1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app​ Share your real-time location with others - Android (8).
    2. Tap your profile picture or initialShare your real-time location with others - Android (9)Share your real-time location with others - Android (10) Location sharing Share your real-time location with others - Android (11)New shareShare your real-time location with others - Android (12).
    3. Under “Share your real-time location,” toggle the time selector to Until you turn this off.
    4. On the people suggestions row, scroll to the right and tap More Share your real-time location with others - Android (13).
    5. In the search bar, enter a name, phone number, or email.

      Important: The location sharing recipient must have a Gmail account.

    6. At the top, tap Send.

Share with a person who doesn’t have a Google Account

To send your location to someone who doesn’t have a Google Account, share your location with a link.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps appShare your real-time location with others - Android (14)and sign in.Learn how to sign in.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initialShare your real-time location with others - Android (15)Share your real-time location with others - Android (16) Location sharing Share your real-time location with others - Android (17)New shareShare your real-time location with others - Android (18).
  3. At the bottom, swipe left.
  4. To copy your location sharing link, tap Copy to clipboard.
  5. To share the link with someone, paste the link into an email, text, or other messaging app.

People with this link can find your real-time location for as long as you choose, up to 24 hours.

Stop sharing

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app Share your real-time location with others - Android (19).
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Share your real-time location with others - Android (20)Share your real-time location with others - Android (21)Location sharing.
  3. Tap the profile of the person you don’t want to share your location with anymore.
  4. Tap Stop.

Share your estimated time of arrival

When you navigate by car, foot, or bicycle, you can share your destination, estimated arrival time, and your current location. The person you share this information with can track your location until you arrive.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app Share your real-time location with others - Android (23).
  2. Set adestination.Learn how to navigate to a place.
  3. After you start navigation,swipe up on the information card.
  4. Tap Share trip progress.
  5. Tap the profile of the person with whom you want to shareShare your real-time location with others - Android (24)Share.
  6. When you reach your destination or stop navigation, you stop sharing your location.
    • To stop sharing before you arrive:​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Swipe up on the information card Share your real-time location with others - Android (25)​​​​​​​ tap Stop sharing.

Get someone’s location

Find someone's location

When someone shares their location with you, you can find them on your map.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app​ Share your real-time location with others - Android (26).
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Share your real-time location with others - Android (27)Share your real-time location with others - Android (28) Location sharing.
  3. Tap the profile of the person you want to find.
    • To update the person's location:Tap on the person's icon Share your real-time location with others - Android (29) More Share your real-time location with others - Android (30)Share your real-time location with others - Android (31)Refresh.

Ask for someone’s location

If you shared your location with someone, or they shared with you in the past, you can ask for their location in Maps.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app Share your real-time location with others - Android (32).
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Share your real-time location with others - Android (33)Share your real-time location with others - Android (34) Location sharing.
  3. Tap a contact whoshared with you before.
  4. Tap RequestShare your real-time location with others - Android (35)Request.

After you ask for your contact’s location, they get your email address,a notification and can:

  • Find your profile to verify who you are.
  • Share their location with you.
  • Ignore your request.
  • Block you. You can'task for their location anymore.

Hide or show someone's location

Hide someone's location

If you don’t want someone’s real-time location on your map, you can hide it. You can turn their location back on at any time.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app​ Share your real-time location with others - Android (36).
  2. On the map, tap their icon.
  3. At the bottom, tap More Share your real-time location with others - Android (37).
  4. Tap Hide from map.

Turn on someone’s location you’ve hidden

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app​ Share your real-time location with others - Android (38).
  2. Tap your profile picture or initialShare your real-time location with others - Android (39)Share your real-time location with others - Android (40)Location sharingShare your real-time location with others - Android (41)More Share your real-time location with others - Android (42).
  3. At the bottom, tap their information.
  4. At the top, tapUnhide.

Deny or block a location request

If you don’t want to share your location with someone in Google Maps, you can:

  • Deny the request: Tap No. Your location isn’t shared.
  • Block the requester: Tap Block. Your location isn’t shared and the requester can’t ask for your location anymore. When you block someone, it affects how they can contact you in other Google products.Learn more about blocking users.

Unblock someone

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app​ Share your real-time location with others - Android (43).
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Share your real-time location with others - Android (44)Share your real-time location with others - Android (45)Location sharing.
  3. At the top, tap MoreShare your real-time location with others - Android (46)Share your real-time location with others - Android (47)Blocked users.
  4. Next to the person you want to unblock, tap RemoveShare your real-time location with others - Android (48).
