π€ Why do coins of some currencies have holes in them?πͺπ¨π¦― Some of them were made for people who are blind or otherwise has got impaired sight, so it would be easier for them to distinguish it. (Danish and Norwegian)πΏ Some of them had holes in it to ran a string through the coins so that they wouldn't be lost. (China and Japan)π¬ In more modern times, the minting of coins with holes is primarily ornamental, and somewhat of an anti-counterfeiting measure as it makes the coin harder to produce with simpler general-purpose tools. (US)π°And one last thing: Coins are the actual money. Notes are liabilities that a bank is obligated to pay money on these notes.
