Hey, I have another question. My friend runs a dragon/exodia deck, and he kept on beating us with it. But, what caught my eye is hand destruction + future fusion + Super Rejuvenation. Super Rejuvenation said to draw the amount of dragon that were DISCARDED this turn. He uses Hand Destruction, and Future Fusion which has the word "SEND". I said that sending is the same as discarding since the card were sent to the GY. I said that it isnt since sending isnt the same as discarding, but discarding is the same thing as sent. He said that I was wrong since I said that discard is the same as sending. Please help! Thanks! CardMaster. (talk • contribs) 02:16, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
- When you discard something, you discard it. Plain and simple. When something is sent, it is not discarded it is sent. Thats it. For example, when you have too many cards in your hand at the end of your turn you Discard cards to get them into the grave. For sending, if you Destroy a monster in battle, it is sent to the grave. Your friend is wrong. Tell him to use Card Destruction next time. Jon Kovacs (talk • contribs) 02:21, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
Thanks. I hope he doesnt denies it. CardMaster. (talk • contribs) 02:23, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
- Tell him to read the cards. If a card specifies discarding to get its effect, and nothing was discarded, then he doesn't get the effect. If he doesn't understand that, then don't play him, because chances are he won't understand other basic rulings either. Jon Kovacs (talk • contribs) 02:26, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
Alright. Thanks again! CardMaster. (talk • contribs) 02:27, January 6, 2011 (UTC)
You're correct, you just didn't explain to your friend very well.
a card is considered sent to the graveyard when it moves to the graveyard from the field, deck, hand ,remove from play or extra deck.discard refers only to cards sent from hand to graveyard, and only if at the end of turn because of hand limit, or from an effect that specifically says "discard".
Similarily cards that are "destroyed" are sent to the graveyard as are tributed cards, and while either would satisfy a sent to graveyard condition, tributed cards are not considered destroyed.
In summary, discarded cards are a subset of cards sent to the graveyard, all discarded cards are sent to the graveyard (unless otherwise stated) but not all cards sent to the graveyard are discarded, even if they were sent from the hand.
If it helps him understand, point out that future fusion sends cards from the deck and not from the hand.
