Unless you plan on consigning a luxury item where you can predict a decent sale, expect to make on average $7 per item. Walk around the store and get a sense of how items are priced, then divide that number by half: that's most likely going to be your profit if your item sells.

In general, you are free to resell any lawfully purchased item and you are not required to purchase from an authorized source, but doing so ensures the best chances that you are dealing in a legitimate product. If the products you sell turn out to be counterfeit you are responsible for that.

Consignment Payment Structure

A person wishing to sell an item on consignment delivers it to a consignment shop or a third party to do the selling on their behalf. Before the third party takes possession of the good, an agreement must be reached as to the revenue split when the item is sold.

Depending on what you're selling, you can arrange to meet your buyer in a public place (many local police stations offer a "safe haven" for such sales) or have a friend hang around while you make the sale.
