How do I contact Scotiabank outside Canada? ›

Call us toll-free at 1(800) 4SCOTIA (if you're in the continental U.S., i.e., excluding Alaska) or call us collect at (416) 701-7200 if you're anywhere else in the world. Withdraw cash or get a credit card cash advance by visiting ABMs that display the VISA, Plus, Interac, American Express or LINK symbols.

If you prefer speaking with a customer service representative to close your account, you can do so by calling Scotiabank's customer service at 1-800-472-6842.

If you've already entered your password incorrectly 5 times, you'll be locked out of the system for several hours before you can try again. If you don't remember your password, please click on our 'Forgot Password' link. This will direct you to a secure area where you can replace the forgotten password.

If your chequing account, savings accounts, debit card, or Mastercard is locked, or you can't unlock your card on the app, please call us at 1-800-472-6842 or visit one of our branches.

To receive a wire transfer you'll need to provide the sender with your name, address, account number, the address of your branch, plus the following information: Bank name: Bank of Nova Scotia. SWIFT code/BIC: NOSCCATT.

Do I need to close my bank account if I leave the country? ›

As discussed on this page, we would advise against closing unless it is absolutely necessary or unless there are large fees. In most situations, it best to keep accounts open and active - in particular, if you expect to return to the US in the future.

Unfortunately you cannot close your account online. Scotiabank help centre directs you to visit a branch to make this update¹.

ATMs are the best way to access money abroad and are increasingly available. Your bank or credit card company may charge fees for withdrawals overseas and may have a limit on the amount you can withdraw daily, so be sure to consult with your bank about this.

Don't worry, you can still use your debit card at ATMs and to pay for things. But you'll need to unlock it to use with your card reader in Online Banking.

If your account becomes inactive or dormant, we require that you visit your branch and present acceptable proof of your identity and address to reactivate the account.
