Harvard Extension School Grant
Harvard Extension School provides grant funding for admitted degree candidates based on the following criteria:
- Submit complete financial aid application by thepriority deadline
- Submit the Application for Institutional Aid by the priority deadline
- Demonstrate financial need
- Maintainsatisfactory academic progress
Grants are offered to eligible candidates to cover a portion of tuition charges based on calculated student aid index and number of credits enrolled in per term.
Extension School Grant funds can be applied to tuition charges only and are not transferrable to other schools. If you are receiving outside financial assistance that covers your tuition charges, your grant eligibility may be impacted.
Harvard Extension School Grant for the Premedical Program
Harvard Extension School offers grant funding for admitted premedical candidates who have completed a minimum of two premedical courses and maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher. To be considered, candidates must have met the priority deadline and demonstrate financial need. These grants generally cover up to two courses per year for a limited number of premedical candidates.
Faculty of Arts and Sciences Special Student Scholarship
Bachelor of Liberal Arts candidates who have been admitted as Special Students to Harvard’sFaculty of Arts and Sciences(FAS) may apply for a Special Student Scholarship. Scholarships are awarded by the Extension School and cover tuition for one undergraduate course in a term. The course must be applicable to a candidate’s field of study at the Extension School and unavailable within the Extension School curriculum.
To be considered, complete and submit all required financial aid application materials and the supplemental FAS Special Student Scholarship application by the priority deadline for fall or spring. Recipients are chosen on the basis of financial need and academic merit. Scholarship applicants must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.33 or higher.

Kwan Fong Scholarship
The Kwan Fong Scholarship is awarded each fall and spring term to one ALM in management or finance program candidate to cover tuition for one course. You are considered for this scholarship only after you have completed and submitted all required financial aid application materials.
Federal Pell Grant
Federal Pell Grants are available to undergraduate degree candidates only. Federal Pell Grant eligibility is determined by the US Department of Education from the information provided on the FAFSA form, and the calculation of a valid Student Aid Index (SAI) on the student’s FAFSA Submission Summary. Federal Pell Grant award amounts will vary based on a student’s calculated SAI and enrollment intensity per semester.
Students may only receive the Federal Pell Grant for a maximum of six years of full-time enrollment, or its equivalent (for example, 12 years of half-time enrollment).
State Funds
Commonwealth of Massachusetts
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts funds programs that provide financial assistance to state residents who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. To qualify for funding, you must:
- Indicate your residency status on the FAFSA
- Be a permanent legal resident of Massachusetts
- Be an admitted candidate in the Bachelor of Liberal Arts Program
To be considered for theMASSGrant, your FAFSA must have been received by the FAFSA processor no later than May 1 for the upcoming academic year.
If you are a full-time candidate enrolled in at least 16 credits per term, you may be eligible for the MASSGrant. If you are a part-time candidate enrolled in at least 8 but no more than 14 credits per term, you may be eligible for theMassachusetts Part-Time Grant.
Rhode Island
To be considered for the Rhode Island state scholarship, your FAFSA must have been received by the FAFSA processor no later than March 1 for the upcoming academic year.
Other states
If you are not a resident of Massachusetts or Rhode Island, you may be eligible for funding through your home state. A partial listing of deadlines is on theFAFSA website. Contact information for state financial aid agencies is available from Student Financial Services.
Lowell Scholarships
Lowell Scholarships enable middle schooland high school teachers to take one Extension School course per term (fall and spring) at half the regular tuition rate (for undergraduate or graduate credit only). The number of scholarships is limited, so teachers should apply early in theregistrationperiod. Scholarships cannot be used for January session or summer courses.
Lowell Scholarships are also available for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade high school students in Boston-area schools. For more information on Lowell Student Scholarships, please visit ourfinancial aid page for non-admitted students.
Lowell Teachers Scholarship
To apply, submit the following with the course registration form:
- Lowell Teachers Scholarship form
- 50 percent of tuition charges
The scholarship form must be signed by the school principal and must include the principal’s phone number.
Lowell Scholarships cannot be used for internships, independent studies, practic*ms, master’s theses, or capstone projects, nor can they be combined with any other scholarships. For more information, call 617-495-4293.
Leonard J. Russell Scholarships
The Leonard J. Russell Scholarship covers tuition for oneGraduate Program in Managementcourse for up to three City of Cambridge employees each term. Interested Cambridge employees maydownload an applicationand submit it to Student Financial Services by the appropriate deadline.
