It’s not easy to find banks that give debit card the same day you open your account or that issue replacement same day debit cards if you’ve lost your card. However, a handful of traditional banks do offer instant-issue debit cards when you visit a branch.
Both traditional banks and neobanks commonly offer same-day virtual debit cards that you can add to a digital wallet and use immediately.
What Should You Do if You Lose Your Debit Card?
If you’ve lost your debit card, it’s important to put a stop on your account and report that card as lost or stolen immediately. You can do this by calling your bank’s fraud prevention number, which is typically listed on the bank of your debit card or on the bank’s website, stopping into a branch or using your bank’s mobile app.
Report your debit card lost or stolen immediately, that way you won’t be held liable for charges on the account. Some banks allow you to turn your debit card off temporarily in their mobile app. That way, if you’ve misplaced your card, perhaps in the laundry, the pocket of your pants, or in another bag you carry, you can turn it on again when you find it. A handful of banks across the U.S. still offer same-day debit cards if you request one at a branch.
TD Bank
TD Bank is known for its customer service and extended business hours, along with 24/7 customer service by telephone. TD Bank is also one of the few banks that provides a new instant issue debit card as a replacement card or when you open a new account.
As with many other banks, you can also obtain a digital replacement card online or through the TD Bank app.
Citizens Bank
Citizens Bank is a traditional bank with brick-and-mortar locations in 11 states across the Midwest, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Florida. Rated 4.7 stars by GOBankingRates and named one of the Best Banks of 2023, Citizens Bank has a century-long history dating back to 1921.
